USING THE NAME OF JESUS

 

Our meditation today has the theme: Using the Name of Jesus. There are many incidents in society, whether published in the media or not, about illegal collection. There are some individuals who collect money from house to house or from shop to shop for the benefit of themselves and their groups. Usually they carry theletter signed by certain official or public and respected figure to be the justification for this action. By carrying certain "big person’s" name they feel they are justified to do the collection.

 

In our social life and also in our culture, when we carry the name of a person who has power and influence, our work will run smoothly. Whether it's an act against the rules or a good deed for a good result, we certainly want to be helped by the support of someone who is stronger and more influential. What we want is that we do not experience obstacles and the objectives of these activities can be achieved immediately and the results can benefit us.

 

Likewise, when we all followers of Christ are taught to use the name of Jesus Christ to ask the Father for various kinds of need. All our prayers usually end with this expression: "Through the intercession of Jesus Christ," which means to use the name of Jesus Christ. When using His name, we feel special and honored. Jesus Himself remains our servant even though He is already united with the Father and the Holy Spirit in heaven.

 

Does Jesus allow us to use His name? Certainly yes! The phrase from the Gospel of John that we have just heard shows that Jesus Himself asks us to use His name, as He says: “Whatever you ask the Father in my name, it will be given to you”. Using the name of Jesus means that we truly acknowledge Jesus properly, and we truly believe He will provide for our needs.

 

Knowing and trusting Him are the truth of our faith in Him. On this basis, Apollos was given a comprehensive explanation regarding the personhood and works of Jesus Christ, so that he could use the name of Jesus correctly in all his preaching activities. We also take responsibility to use the name of Jesus correctly, with the right intention to be united with the Father.

 

We must be able to avoid using the name Jesus in vain, for example using the profane terms or names to identify Him. We must not use the name Jesus to ask for anything that is fraudulent, evil or against humanity. We also have to avoid replacing the name of Jesus with the names of other saints including the Blessed Virgin Mary, because Jesus is the only mediator for us to the Father. Our journey to the Father is only through Jesus Christ.

 

Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen our minds and hearts to always use Your name correctly every time we pray and ask the Father for our necessities. Hail Mary full of grace ... In the name of the Father ...

MEMAKAI NAMA YESUS

 

Renungan kita hari ini bertema: Memakai Nama Yesus. Ada banyak kejadian di masyarakat, baik yang dipublikasi media maupun yang tidak, tentang pemungutan liar. Ada sejumlah oknum yang memungut uang dari warga masyarakat di rumah-rumah keluarga untuk kepentingan mereka dan kelompok mereka. Biasanya mereka membawa surat yang ditanda tangani oleh pejabat atau tokoh masyarakat tertentu sebagai pembenaran atas tindakan tersebut. Dengan membawa nama “orang besar” mereka merasa aman untuk bertindak.

 

Di dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat dan dalam kebudayaan yang kita miliki, ketika kita membawa nama orang yang memiliki kuasa dan pengaruh, urusan-urusan yang kita lakukan bakal menjadi lancar. Entah suatu perbuatan melawan aturan entah suatu perbuatan baik untuk tujuan yang baik, kita tentu ingin dibantu oleh dukungan orang yang lebih kuat dan berpengaruh. Yang kita inginkan ialah supaya kita tidak mengalami hambatan dan tujuan kegiatan tersebut segera tercapai serta hasilnya dapat menguntungkan kita.. 

 

Seperti inilah kalau kita semua pengikut Kristus diajarkan untuk memakai nama Yesus Kristus untuk meminta kebutuhan-kebutuhan jasmani-rohani kepada Bapa. Semua doa kita diakhiri dengan “dengan perantaraan Yesus Kristus”, berarti memakai nama Yesus Kristus. Memakainya itu kita merasa spesial dan terhormat. Yesus sendiri tetap menjadi pelayan kita meskipun Ia sudah bersatu dengan Bapa dan Roh Kudus di surga. 

 

Apakah Yesus mengizinkan kita memakai nama-Nya? Tentu. Kalimat dari Injil Yohanes yang baru saja kita dengar menunjukkan bahwa Yesus sendiri meminta supaya kita memakai nama-Nya: apa saja yang kamu minta kepada Bapa dalam nama-Ku, akan diberikan kepadamu. Memakai nama Yesus berarti kita sungguh mengakui Yesus secara benar, kita percaya Dia akan memenuhi kebutuhan kita. 

 

Mengetahui dan percaya kepada Dia adalah bukti iman kita kepada-Nya. Atas dasar ini maka Apollos diberikan semua penjelasan secara menyeluruh tentang Yesus Kristus, supaya ia dapat memakai nama Yesus secara benar dalam seluruh kegiatan pewartaannya. Kita juga mengambil tanggung jawab untuk memakai nama Yesus secara benar, dengan maksud yang benar untuk sampai kepada Bapa. 

 

Kita harus bisa menghindari memakai nama Yesus secara sembarangan, misalnya mencatut istilah profan pada nama-Nya. Kita tidak boleh memakai nama Yesus untuk meminta sesuatu yang curang, jahat atau melawan kemanusiaan. Kita juga harus menghindari menggantikan posisi nama Yesus dengan nama orang kudus lain termasuk Bunda Maria, karena Yesus itu satu-satunya perantara kita kepada Bapa. Perjalanan kita kepada Bapa hanya melalui Yesus Kristus.

 

Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan Yesus Kristus, kuatkanlah pikiran dan hati kami untuk senantiasa memakai nama-Mu secara benar setiap kali kami berdoa dan memohon kepada Bapa. Salam Maria... Dalam nama Bapa...

DON’T UNDERESTIMATE REGRET

 

Our meditation today has the theme: Don't Underestimate Regret. For already how many times Vincent, a teenager who is about to enter university, apologized to his mother: "I'm sorry Mamma, I really regret what I did. I promise I won't do it again." Vincent only uses the money for traveling and dating, the supposed amount is intended for his entering college. He bent down and hugged his mother. Everyone hoped that Vincent's promise to change would come true.

 

But each of our promises to change from mistakes or sins will come true as expected through regret. Regret is a feeling of shame, sadness, pain, suffering and discomfort for having made mistakes and sins. Even the attitude of hatred, anger and dislike towards mistakes and sins is also an important part of regret. The person who is sorry shows that he is angry and hurt by the wrong or sinful act made.

 

So one should not take regret lightly, deny it or play with it. Jesus Christ gives us advice that regret should be well accepted and recognized. Each of His followers will cry and be filled with sorrow over the experience of a lack or an inability like that of the disciples of Jesus. This is a normal thing and we always face it.

 

But all of that will be overcome by consolation from the Holy Spirit. The comfort and help we receive after contrition is also a normal experience for us. After crying and being sad, people smile and get excited again. However, a regret is seen as the most effective act if it is done for the sins and mistakes we have committed.

 

Let us Just imagine this. A mistake was made and the person concerned wanted to repent and improve himself, but he didn't want to regret his act! For instance, I stole a friend's money. Then I admitted it. I intended to return the money and promise not to steal again, but I do not regret what I have done.

 

What will happen on me? I have no feelings of shame and sadness. I also don't feel how much pain and loss my friend is. There is no more room in my heart for forgiveness and respect for others. That is the effect if we have no regret. Regretting ourselves properly will make our forgiveness sincere, and will help us to avoid temptation to make again the same mistake. 

 

So once again, never take regret for granted. Hopefully you and I are among those who consider it positive and important to regret. Every mistake demands regret.

 

Let's pray. In the name of the Father... O Lord, help us always to have deep regret for every mistake and sin we have committed, so that we can truly repent. Our Father who art in heaven... In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit ...

JANGAN REMEHKAN PENYESALAN

 

Renungan kita pada hari ini bertema: Jangan Remehkan Penyesalan. Untuk kesekian kalinya Vincent, remaja yang hendak masuk universitas itu, minta maaf kepada ibunya: "Maafkan aku Mama, saya sangat menyesali perbuatan saya. Saya berjanji tak ulangi lagi perbuatan itu". Vincent hanya menggunakan uang untuk jalan-jalan dan pacaran, uang yang sebenarnya untuk persiapannya masuk kuliah. Ia menunduk dan memeluk ibunya. Semua berharap supaya janji Vincent untuk berubah itu menjadi kenyataan.

 

Tetapi setiap janji kita untuk berubah dari kesalahan atau dosa akan terwujud seperti yang diharapkan harus melalui penyesalan. Penyesalan adalah rasa malu, sedih, sakit, derita dan tidak menyenangkan karena telah berbuat kesalahan dan dosa. Bahkan sikap benci, marah dan tidak suka terhadap kesalahan dan dosa juga menjadi bagian penting dari suatu penyesalan. Orang yang menyesal menunjukkan bahwa ia marah dan sakit karena perbuatan tersebut. 

 

Jadi orang tidak boleh menganggap remeh penyesalan, menyangkal atau mempermainkannya. Yesus Kristus memberikan nasihat bahwa penyesalan mesti dinikmati. Setiap pengikut-Nya akan menangis dan diliputi rasa sedih atas pengalaman kekurangan atau suatu ketidakmampuan seperti yang dialami para murid Yesus. Ini merupakan suatu hal yang biasa dan selalu kita hadapi. 

 

Tetapi semua itu akan diatasi dengan penghiburan dari Roh Kudus. Penghiburan dan pertolongan yang kita terima setelah penyesalan juga merupakan suatu pengalaman rutin kita. Setelah menangis dan sedih, orang tersenyum dan bersemangat kembali. Namun suatu penyesalan dipandang paling efektif yaitu jika itu dilakukan atas dosa-dosa dan kesalahan yang kita lakukan. 

 

Bayangkan saja, ada sebuah kesalahan yang dilakukan lalu yang bersangkutan mau bertobat, memperbaiki diri, tetapi tidak mau menyesali perbuatannya! Saya mencuri uang teman. Lalu mengakui perbuatan itu, saya akan mengembalikan uang dan berjanji tak mencuri lagi, tetapi saya tak menyesali perbuatan saya. 

 

Apa yang terjadi? Saya tidak punya perasaan malu dan sedih. Saya juga tidak merasakan betapa sakit dan ruginya teman saya. Tak ada lagi ruang di hati saya untuk maaf dan respek pada orang lain. Itulah akibatnya kalau kita tak punya penyesalan. Menyesali diri secara benar akan membuat maaf kita tulus, dan akan membantu kita untuk tidak tergoda melakukan kesalahan yang sama lagi. 

 

Jadi sekali lagi, jangan pernah menganggap remeh penyesalan itu. Semoga kita termasuk orang-orang yang menganggap positif dan penting untuk sebuah penyesalan. Setiap kesalahan menuntut adanya penyesalan. 

 

Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Tuhan, bantulah kami selalu untuk memiliki penyesalan mendalam atas setiap kesalahan dan dosa yang kami lakukan, agar kami dapat bertobat sesungguhnya. Bapa kami... Dalam nama Bapa ...

THE ASCENSION OF JESUS INTO HEAVEN

 

Our meditation today has the theme: The Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. Did Jesus really ascend into Heaven? Is heaven up there? Where did the writer of the Acts of the Apostles get the description of ascending to heaven? These are some examples of question that are frequently asked in our life as Christians. The image of Jesus’ Ascension is not fabricated, but had been used in the Old Testament. The Book of Genesis says that the man of God Henock was taken up to heaven (Gen. 5,24). The prophet Elijah "was taken" up to heaven (2Kings 2,9-15). They tell us a very interesting story about this event.

 

The description in the scriptures shows what our senses cannot normally perceive, namely the entry of Jesus into the glory of the Father in heaven. His life now is completely different from ours. He cannot be seen and touched, cannot be physically marked because he already belongs to God's world. It can only be grasped by our faith and the only way to talk about is through images.

 

This description of ascension to heaven has to do with the apostles looking up to heaven at the time Jesus ascended to heaven. The manner of people looking up as a way of seeing was indeed used by the writer of the Acts of the Apostles. Heaven was indeed up there, marked by the presence of clouds as a meaningful symbol commonly found in the Old Testament, to indicate the presence of God in certain places (Exodus 13,22). Jesus was going upward, and it is at that same direction that we will lead our journey after this world.

 

During the 40 days between the resurrection and His ascension into Heaven, Jesus Christ had spent His time providing the spiritual legacies properly needed by His chosen people. Generally a period of 40 days was meant as the time for waiting and a period of preparation for the apostles and disciples of the Lord. They were the first disciples of Jesus of Nazareth and had the full right to speak in Jesus’ name because they had received all of His messages. They had to start from Jerusalem after receiving the Spirit promised by Jesus Himself.

 

After witnessing the Ascension of Jesus, the apostles took on worldwide evangelizing assignments. They were given the power of Jesus Himself. This task is also given to us members of the Church to make Christ present in the world really incarnated and felt. We feel comfortable and confident in this assignment because Jesus gave us the assurance: "I will always be with you until the end of time". So Jesus ascended into heaven does not mean He went far away from us, but He went so that His Spirit would have His turn to work and be with us in this world.

 

Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... Our most loving Jesus, strengthen our faith in our path that eventually destined in heaven and may our life in this world be always filled with Your Holy Spirit. Glory to the Father ... In the name of the Father ...

YESUS NAIK KE SURGA

 

Renungan kita pada hari ini bertema: Yesus Naik Ke Surga. Apakah Yesus benar-benar Naik ke Surga? Apakah memang surga itu ada di atas? Dari mana penulis Kisah Para Rasul mendapatkan gambaran tentang naik ke surga? Ini adalah contoh pertanyaan-pertanyaan yang sering dilontarkan di antara kita. Gambaran itu tidak dikarang-karang, tetapi sudah digunakan dalam Perjanjian Lama. Kitab Kejadian berkata bahwa Bangsawan Henock diangkat ke surga (Kej 5,24). Nabi Elia “dibawa” ke surga (2Raja-raja 2,9-15). Ini semua memberikan kisah yang sangat menarik. 

 

Gambaran di dalam kitab suci ditampakkan sedemikian akan apa yang indera kita tidak dapat menangkap secara normal, yaitu tentang masuknya Yesus ke dalam kemuliaan Bapa. Hidup-Nya kini berbeda sama sekali dari kehidupan kita. Ia tidak dapat dilihat, disentuh, tidak bisa ditandai secara fisik karena sudah menjadi bagian dari dunianya Allah. Ia hanya dapat ditangkap dengan iman kita dan satu-satunya cara untuk membicarakan tentangnya ialah melalui gambaran-gambaran. 

 

Gambaran tentang kenaikan ke surga ini ada kaitannya dengan para rasul yang melihat ke surga pada saat Yesus naik ke surga. Kebiasaan orang-orang yang melihat ke atas memang dipakai oleh penulis Kisah. Surga itu memang ada di atas sana, ditandai dengan adanya awan sebagai suatu simbol yang biasa ditemukan di dalam Perjanjian Lama yang menunjukkan kehadiran Allah di tempat-tempat tertentu (Kel 13,22). Yesus menuju ke atas, dan pada tujuan yang sama itulah kita akan mengarahkan perjalanan kita setelah dari dunia ini.

 

Selama 40 hari antara kebangkitan Kristus dan Kenaikan Yesus ke Surga, Yesus Kristus menghabiskan saat-saat-Nya memberikan warisan-warisan rohani yang diperlukan oleh orang-orang pilihan-Nya. Pada umumnya masa 40 hari berarti penantian, suatu periode persiapan bagi para rasul dan murid-murid Tuhan. Mereka adalah murid-murid pertama Yesus dari Nazareth dan memiliki hak penuh untuk berbicara dalam nama-Nya karena mereka telah menerima semua pesan-Nya. Mereka harus memulainya dari Yerusalem setelah menerima Roh yang dijanjikan Yesus.  

 

Setelah menyaksikan Kenaikan Yesus, para rasul mengambil tugas penginjilan seluruh dunia. Mereka diberi kuasa Yesus sendiri. Tugas ini juga diberikan kepada kita anggota Gereja untuk membuat Kristus itu hadir di tengah dunia. Kita merasa nyaman dan yakin dengan tugas ini karena Yesus memberikan jaminan: “Aku akan senantiasa menyertai kalian sampai akhir zaman”. Jadi Yesus naik ke surga tidak berarti Ia pergi jauh meninggalkan kita, tetapi Ia pergi supaya Roh-Nya yang punya giliran bekerja di dalam dan bersama kita.

 

Marilah kita berdoa. Dalam nama Bapa... Ya Yesus yang baik, kuatkanlah iman kami akan tujuan kami ke surga dan hidup kami di dunia ini yang dipenuhi oleh Roh Kudus-Mu. Kemuliaan... Dalam nama Bapa...
