Throughout my training and practice as a physician I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. If you want to know how to live the most radical life possible I hope you’ll join me on this journey.

Controversial Thoughts: Should you worry about vitamin A toxicity from liver?

Controversial Thoughts: Should you worry about vitamin A toxicity from liver?

    Short answer: No.

Listen to this week's episode of Controversial Thoughts for the full breakdown. Come down the rabbit hole with me!

Here's are the cliff notes: In amounts consistent with what we would find in nature, there's no evidence that vitamin A is an issue and lots of evidence that the unique nutrients found in it are invaluable for optimal human health.

It's also totally safe for pregnancy in ancestrally consistent amounts (1-2 oz per day, ~ 8oz per week, or 6-12 capsules of Bone Marrow & Liver from @heartandsoilsupplements)

Don't trust, verify. Include liver in your life and see how you feel! I'm betting, you're going to level up in many ways!

Is going plant-based the solution to climate change? With Robby Sansom

Is going plant-based the solution to climate change? With Robby Sansom

Robby’s roots run deep in the natural food community. Previously, as CFO/COO at EPIC, Robby spent much of the last decade studying regenerative agriculture at ranches all over the world. Through this education, Force of Nature was co-founded with the intention to accelerate the creation of a global regenerative supply network. Force of Nature works in partnership with land stewards, ranchers and farmers committed to creating a positive return on the planet. With Force of Nature, consumers now have the ability to invest in environmental regeneration by consuming meat that is good for the planet. Born and raised in Austin, TX, he received both a bachelor’s degree and a master's degree from the University of Texas. When he’s not building businesses aimed at saving the planet, Robby can be found on a trail, ocean, mountain or field, always making time to appreciate nature and explore his surroundings. Robby is also a land steward at ROAM Ranch where he owns regeneratively managed bison.

Will Biden become the hamburglar or defend meat?

Will Biden become the hamburglar or defend meat?

Rumors that Biden's climate plan might include limitations on red meat consumption turned out to be unfounded but mainstream threats against the most nutritious foods on the planet (animal meat and organs, especially red meat) remain very real!

In this episode of Controversial Thoughts, I attack many of the usual criticisms against meat head-on and discuss disturbing trends in our culture which continues to lean more and more anti-meat.

Consider this ammunition in your discussions with those who still believe cows are bad for the environment! You're welcome!

Controversial Thoughts: Is there one optimal diet for all humans?

Controversial Thoughts: Is there one optimal diet for all humans?

Would you be surprised if my answer was "no?" ... You are very different than other people you know, some might even say you are a snowflake, "one in a million..." 😂 And that's basically true... The diet that's ideal for you is different than mine and different than what your brother/sister/mom/dad may find to be best for them... BUT! I do believe there are 2 major overarching principles that will help guide you on your journey to discover YOUR OWN ideal diet. I discuss both of these in this video and share an incredible story of improvement in psoriasis with a carnivore diet as well as a recent paper looking at the harms of seed oils in states of critical illness! Did we evolve as carnivores? With Miki Ben-Dor

Did we evolve as carnivores? With Miki Ben-Dor

Miki is a rock star.  He’s got a Ph.D. in archaeology and is affiliated with the department of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University.  He researches the connection between human evolution and nutrition throughout human prehistory.

    0:09:39 Introduction with Miki Ben-Dor
0:12:29 The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene
0:26:29 Humans are on a spectrum of omnivorous mammals
0:34:49 Evidence that we have evolved to become a specialized carnivore
0:40:29 Our specialization to absorb heme iron
0:42:29 Stomach acidity: more proof that we are meant to eat meat
0:46:24 In order to consume enough plant material, primates must spend a large portion of the day gathering and eating
0:49:29 The quality of a proper human diet takes a lot less time to eat and digest
    0:52:49 Humans are "fat hunters"
1:00:29 Humans "shut down regions of the genome" to accomodate a high fat diet (presumably animal fats) while chimpaneezes open regiojs of the genome to accomodate a higher sugar diet
1:05:34 The human shoulder joint is perfectly designed to throw
1:09:09 The counter argument: we have genetic adaptations to consume starch and sugar
1:16:09 Was the majority of the decline in megafauna was due to the human hunting of these animals?
1:20:39 We can get plenty of quality omega-3's from eating large, fatty, ruminant animals
1:26:39 There is a hiearchy for human food sources; meat is on top, followed by fish, and then plant sources are at the bottom
1:35:29 "Carnivore" essentially means that us humans were eating animal-focused throughout our evolution, but not only animals - The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene
1:39:39 The plants you will find in the supermarket today is not at all what our ancestors would have eaten, but the meat is generally the same
1:41:29 Our brains have been shrinking over the last few thousand years
1:48:39 Closing thoughts with Miki: what can we take away from all of this information?

Too many ads - especially when listening from outside the US - but brilliant podcast. Love the passion and love that Paul isn’t afraid to speak up even when what he’s saying goes against everything most believe.
