In this podcast with chat with Scott Thomson who has help discover a number of Australian Freshwater turtles. Scott is a taxonomist and paleontologist and his passion has taken him around the world. He currently resides in Brazil. Scott is a member of the Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group of the IUCN Species Survial Commission. We talk about the importance of taxonomy for conservation, turtle bum breathing and the recent discovery of a Galapagos Tortoise thought extinct for over 100 years. Today we talk with Doctor Brahm Marjadi is a Senior Lecturer in Community-Engaged Learning and the Associate Dean for Engagement at the Western Sydney University School of Medicine.

Brahm has a medical degree and general practice training from Indonesia. He was a lecturer in medical microbiology before undertaking his Master of Public Health and PhD in Community Medicine at the University of New South Wales on healthcare-associated infection prevention and control.

Drawing from his medical and public health knowledge and his 11-year career in teaching Evidence-Based Medicine, Brahm has taken the role of a “hoax slayer” in several Indonesian social media groups where he investigates and either debunks or confirms questionable posts by providing evidence-based information.

Today we chat with Professor Zhonghua Chen who is Associate Dean International at the School of Science and Education Leader of the National Vegetable Protected Cropping Centre at Western Sydney University. 

Zhonhua grew up with China and we get his perspectives about "Wet Markets", food prep and COVID-19 "Fake News".

Zhonghua has an internationally-recognized track record of research excellence in agriculture, plant science and evolutionary biology. He teaches into undergraduate and postgraduate units at WSU. Since 2005, his research has resulted in over 100 publications include high quality research articles on Proceedings of National Academy of Science USA, Trends in Plant Science, The Plant Cell, eLife, Ecology Letters, Plant Physiology, New Phytologist, Plant Biotechnology Journal, and The Plant Journal. He has obtained research grants from the ARC, HIA, CRDC, GRDC, and AISRF in the past five years and received a range of research awards. He is the Editor in Chief for Plant Growth Regulation and a reviewer for over 60 international journals. He is also an international referee for grant applications to the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Netherland Organization for Scientific Research, Swiss National Science Foundation, Natural Science Foundation of China, South Africa National Research Foundation etc.

Today we talk with Dr Sung from Hong Kong University. Dr Sung talks about the consequences of the Asian Wildlife Trade for food, medicine and the pet trade and what it will mean in a post COVID19 world.
