    Small Grant, Big Impact

    Last year, Food Sense Wales, with funding from Peas Please and facilitation by Social Farms and Gardens, ran a pilot of a small grants to fund equipment for small scale horticultural growers in Wales – growers who previously had minimal opportunities to access capital investment grants.
    In a bid to help these smaller Welsh initiatives increase their production and in turn, increase people’s veg consumption, Food Sense Wales awarded small grants, worth between £2,500 and £5,000 grants to five food enterprises with no more than 5-Hectares of production land.
    Join Dr Amber Wheeler as she discusses the results and impacts of the pilot project with those who received the grants - Nathan Richards from Henbant; Lara Bean from Angle Walled Garden; Emma Maxwell from Ash&Elm and Abel Pearson from Glasbren.

    Food. Climate. Change? – The road to net zero

    The second episode in the Food. Climate. Change? will explore the ways in which farmers and the farming community are dealing with climate change – the challenges and opportunities that the road to net zero presents. We’ll be looking at different ways of farming; sustainable production and discussing the views of different generations.

    Joining presenter, Aled Rhys Jones are father and daughter – Glyn Roberts and Beca Glyn - who farm at Dylasau Uchaf, a National Trust tenant farm nestled between Betws y Coed and Ysbyty Ifan in North Wales. Glyn and Beca look after their livestock in this beautiful corner of Wales and see themselves as guardians of the land. As well as being a busy farmer, Glyn Roberts is also President of the Farming Union of Wales – a position that he’s held since 2015.

    The first episode in the Food. Climate. Change? series will look at the supply chain and procurement practices in Wales. We’ll be exploring the current situation and asking whether changing our ways of working can have a positive impact on people’s health, prosperity and on our climate.

    Joining presenter, Aled Rhys Jones to discuss some of these issues are Gwyneth Ayres, Corporate Policy, Performance & Partnership Manager at Carmarthenshire County Council; Edward Morgan, Group CSR and Training manager at Castell Howell Foods; Alex Cook - a food activist, chef and social entrepreneur, and Abel Pearson, head grower at Glasbren CSA.
