Hello, Friends and Visitors!
We're are delighted to inform you that In the Author's Corner with Etienne is coming back home, effective the first of Dec 2020. As you might know, the devastation of dual-Hurricanes Irma and Maria knocked us off the air (with medical issues included), assigned me as a Crisis Counselor during the recovery phase, and awaking scheduling for my medical follow-ups! In the meanwhile, I have been preparing gifts and surprises for you, my Faithful Followers. More to come! (Want to be a guest? Then email me at emailme7261@gmail.com)

We regret that, since the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, our studio and related technology have been down. Our intentions were to keep you posted on our status. That, unfortunately, has not occurred until now, Sept. 5, 2018. During the recovery process, I have been functioning as a Crisis Counselor, in a local nonprofit agency, funded by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Most recently yours truly was promoted to Crisis Counselor Lead. This podcast will remain on hiatus until further notice. From Scapegoats to Lambs. . . by Charles L. Brown Jr.

From Scapegoats to Lambs. . . by Charles L. Brown Jr.

Unlike so many murders of unarmed black & brown bodies by police officers, the viral video recording of George Floyd’s modern-day lynching set into motion a Kairos moment in time, the impact of which is still being felt over a year later.

How/Why did God usher in this season of transformation now? Can God’s Word teach us how to reverse engineer communal violent scapegoating? What role can each of us play to eradicate police brutality? From Scapegoats to Lambs: How God’s Word Speaks to George Floyd’s Murder audaciously confronts these issues stemming from Charles L. Brown Jr.’s unflinching belief that God’s Word is uniquely qualified to preach to &  through the legacy of the suffering of black & brown bodies, & that the Lord has a way of humbling the powerful & empowering the humiliated.

In adopting what he calls “hood hermeneutics,” Charles joins the ranks of a growing number of unapologetic, black, Christian intellectuals unashamedly challenging the Church to mine the text with ferocious passion until it speaks compellingly to the struggle of those violently scapegoated.

Charles L. Brown Jr., a Baltimore, MD native, is the founding pastor of Family of Faith African Methodist Episcopal Church, in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, & co-founder of The Virgin Islands Alliance for Consumer Justice. Before engaging in consumer advocacy & public policy in the territory, he served as Capitol Hill legislative staff for members of the US House of Representatives & Senate. Afterwards he served as a lobbyist for a national, non-profit called Teach For America. Charles has been an ordained minister in the A.M.E. Church for over 30 years, & after sitting in multiple graduate courses under Dr. Cornel West while matriculating in seminary, he became relentlessly passionate about the nexus between faith & social justice.

Sophie Schiller’s Lost Diary of Alexander Hamilton

Sophie Schiller’s Lost Diary of Alexander Hamilton

Shows his development from boyhood to manhood and how St. Croix shaped and influenced his character, how he learned about trade, the evils of slavery, and how he lost the most important people in his life: his mother and father. The story of one boy’s struggle to survive amidst all odds in a land of sugar plantations, slavery, and smugglers, a boy who would one day grow up to be a Founding Father.

1765: Alexander Hamilton arrives with his family in St. Croix to begin a new life. He longs for the chance to go to school and fit in, but secrets from his mother’s past threaten to turn him into a social outcast and tear his family apart. When he sees a young African slave being tortured, Alex vows to act. He urges his uncle to buy Ajax and promises to set him free. But tragedy strikes when his father abandons the family and his mother dies of yellow fever. Orphaned and alone, Alex is forced to survive by his wits. By day he works in a counting house learning the secrets of foreign trade. By night he reads Plutarch and dreams of fame and glory.

When Ajax is sold to a brutal planter, Alex vows to save him, even at the risk of his own life. With the help of a reluctant slave-catcher, he concocts a plan to rescue Ajax, but when the price for helping a slave run away is torture or death, no one is safe. In this gripping tale, Sophie Schiller re-creates the boyhood of the brilliant boy who would grow up to become a Founding Father and one of America's foremost men.

Lovers of Pirates of the Caribbean, Treasure Island, and Johnny Tremain will delight in this tropical adventure.
