How will you define 2020?
These poems are about everything
I have overcome in life
And all the lessons learned:
Some good,
Some bad.
But it still taught me about myself
And I’m forever grateful
For everything, God has done in my life.
It’s a beautiful thing letting go of the past
And embracing tomorrow.
While writing poetry, there was a global
pandemic, which was an awakening on this planet.
A global revolution was right on the horizon regarding
race in the world. There was so much uncertainty...

Day 54: Feelings
Something we all will experience in life.
Some will brush them away.
Others will feel the pain,
The suffering,
The betrayal.
We all will experience hurt in life.
The hurt of another lashing out on you…
It their own pain,
Not yours.
But why let your hurt affects others?
It’s their pain.
Always remember:
It has nothing to do with you,
But it still hurts.
Yes, your feelings are valid,
But why hurt another in the process?
We all will experience this in life.

Day 55: Thank You
For the birds singing in the morning.
For your ever so grace.
For everything done in my life
And everything to come.
For your ever so loving grace when I was wrong.
For all the times you protected me
When I was supposed to be die.
I’m so thankful for your
Love, grace, and mercy every single day,
Even on the darkest ones.
Thank you for always being there and loving me
And always providing a table and a room
for me to sit at when others didn’t welcome me.

Your grandma has spent many nights praying for you.
Her prayers are with you every day and night,
When life gets hard,
On your best day,
And on your worst.
The prayers have saved you many times
Without you knowing it.
Her prayers were a cry to the Lord
For your protection.
Even when the devil sends his angels,
Always remember
to thank your grandma for her prayers.

It is not defined by the tone of your skin
Or by the air that you breathe.
Nor by the school you attend
or the neighborhood you were raised in.
It is defined by the knowledge you have acquired
On this beautiful earth.
It is not defined by what others think of you,
But by the adventures you have been through.
It is not defined by your weird glasses,
But by the knowledge you share with the world.
It’s the knowledge you obtained through your
Lifetime.

We all will experience this in life,
But the question is:
How will you overcome it?
It’s so scary sometimes.
It takes over your body.
It leaves a yearning in your eyes.
It’s like you want something so bad
that you will do anything to get it.
It makes you forget who you are.
It feels like the evil one is upon you.
It’s this feeling you just cannot explain.
You shall know want when you encounter it.
