Sarah Friedland
Fascinated by the patterns and politics of crowds, Sarah Friedland choreographed and directed CROWDS, a three-channel video installation. Friedland presented CROWDS as an in-person experience in 2019 at La MaMa Galleria as part of Performa19 and the Ann Arbor Film Festival. Then in 2021, she presented it digitally at the University of Rochester and American Dance Festival.

Choreographer Colleen Thomas’s work “Light and Desire” draws on themes of family history, social politics and her own experiences. She also calls it “an act of resistance,” pushing back against oppressive forces. It eventually debuted at New York Live Arts in September 2021 after pandemic-related delays.
