    Big Shot Bob – Episode 189 – Rob Makes NBA Ref Money

    We open with Rob joking that Jenners is going to lose the Draymond Green less-than 10 technical fouls bet after he got TWO the other night and has already notched four this season. Rob also HATES that the NBA refs continue to put out statements after the games that they missed calls, like what happened on the Jayson Tatum game winner from the other night, and how that doesn’t do anything except upset the fan base. Plus everyone on the show is really happy that Inside the NBA got picked up by ESPN, but to still be produced by Turner, as that show has proved to be a very good spotlight for the league over the years.   Rob also thinks that Mike Tyson just ran out of steam in the Jake Paul fight but does not believe the fight was rigged. We also have some props for Anthony Davis and LeBron James as they continue to dominate early in the season, especially with LeBron at the doorstep of 40 years old. And we all laugh at the farce of the Lakers now saying they DON’T want to trade D-Lo because he’s playing so well off the bench, because that’s exactly the time you do trade him! Plus LeMelo Ball’s $100K fine caught us a little off guard due to the context of the comment he made, but Rob says it was clear that they were sending a message to people not to cross that line, especially when it comes to the league’s sponsors.   James Harden also made history this week by surpassing Ray Allen for second on the all-time three-pointers made list, which doesn’t really change his legacy until he elevates the Clippers and wins a ring. And with Cleveland entering this week still unbeaten at 15-0, Rob says they could be way better than anyone anticipated down the stretch but might not make it to the Finals as the 15-0 teams of the past have done. And we try to make sense of the Philadelphia 76ers who continue to just fall apart right in front of our eyes, even though Rob thinks they will still find a way to make the playoffs.   And it wouldn’t be a week if we didn’t argue about the College Football Playoff and what happens if a 2-loos team loses the SEC Championship and gets bounced while another team sneaks in behind them. Madness all over the place in the first year of the 12-team Playoff!     Big Shot Bob – Shoot Around Ep 72 – I Got Five On It

    On this week’s bonus show, we get right into the NBA, as Rob breaks down the most recent MVP ladder… and he and B-Dog try to guess the Top 10. We also talk about the college player who cup-checked a shooter in the corner, and ask Rob what players did to try to interfere with his shot. An to almost no one’s surprise, Jerry Jones continues to suck, as we talk about his reluctance to hang curtains and how Rob’s boy CeeDee Lamb continues to have issues with the offense. And could Deion Sanders be the hire if the Cowboys decide to fire Mike McCarthy?   Rob and B-Dog also both loved the Texans all-red look on Sunday night even though the helmets look like they had Soul Glo on them! And as we look ahead to the college football weekend, we talk about the chaos in the playoff right now after all these big losses, and how the 12-team playoff is really paying off in its first year. We also have to have a serious discussion about Lamar Odom’s sex doll escapades with his new Khloe Kardashian sex doll, including conversation Rob and his wife had about it earlier in the week.    Finally with Warner Brothers selling 10 fully functional Batmobiles from the Christopher Nolan movies, we ask Rob what fictional car would he would want to own. Answers range from the A-Team van, Speed Buggy and the DeLorean from Back to the Future… which Rob would NOT fit into.

    Big Shot Bob – Ep 188 – The Skinny Committee

    We open the show this week with Rob’s stories about Bobbleheads that do NOT look like him, after his wife confused his bobblehead for Tony Parker, and how he often gets mistaken for Alonzo Mourning and Horace Grant when out in public at times. It takes us down a wild road about NBA bobbles and statues that don’t look anything like the guys they are modeled after, specifically the tribute to Shaq’s LA statue.   Rob gets into the D-Lo situation with the Lakers, and why JJ decided to bench him, and why he immediately started performing better coming off the bench. We also dive into the rumors that DeAngelo will be used to make a move for another big like Brooke Lopez, and Rob says that as long as AD is healthy he doesn’t think the Lakers need another big. And we try to figure out why AD continues to shy away from wearing goggles, after getting popped in the eye the other night.   Plus the Giannis versus Jaylen Brown saga this week was confusing to us, as Giannis said he doesn’t want to be anyone’s friend but then plays games with guys on the court and is somehow surprised that guys don’t find that cute. B-Dog also lays out the trade scenarios for Dame Lillard to go to the Lakers, which would be so lopsided it would be comical. And the Cavaliers are showing the league just how talented they are, from Donovan Mitchell, to Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, they are deep and talented and play great defense… all leading to an impressive, unbeaten start to the season. Plus the conversation about Chet Holmgren’s injury leads into Victor Wembanyama – “the Skinny Committee” – and whether guys who don’t carry much weight can still be offensive dominators in the NBA.   There is SO much great audio this week, including a check-in on the Draymond Green technical counter, audio from the cockpit during the Auburn basketball team fight that forced the plane to turn around this weekend, the hilarious and amazing Michelle Beadle Nuggets flub, and Pat McAfee leading the wild LSU fans into cursing on live TV! And the audio of Saints coach Darren Rizzi saying he clogged the toilet in the coach’s office on his first day takes us into a conversation about clogging the toilet at other people’s homes. We also give out a Big Shot of the Week to a Texas firefighter who pulled a toddler out of the second story window of a burning building, and play a classic round of Shot Clock that, as always, ends in controversy.

    The bonus show opens with some great questions from Big Shot listeners, including Dean who wants to know who our Play-In teams will be based on the picks we made last week. Rob rolls with the Bucks and Sixers in the East, and the Nuggets and the Kings in the West… Jenners has the Sixers and Heat in the East, and Dallas and the Suns in the West… and B-Dog goes with the Lakers and Dallas in the West, and the Hawks and the Nets in the East.   Plus Michael Porter Jr said this week that if the Nuggets don’t win this year that they might have to break up that team, and a look at everyone’s contracts proves that otherwise. But Rob feels like they need to focus on getting the bench pieces back that they lost in order to turn it around. And after impressive starts, listeners what to know who Rob thinks will have a bigger impact on their team this season, Buddy Hield or Sabonis? And Rob is rolling with Buddy because he’s basically become the new splash brother. Rob also agrees with Baron Davis’s assessment that a Doc Rivers team is a “beatable team” and says they may need to blow up the Bucks entirely.   There was also a weird streak that came to light this week, where the Houston Rockets haven’t beat the Golden State Warriors since February of 2020! That led us to ask Rob about teams he could not find a way to beat, and he says his Houston team couldn’t beat the Sonics because of their iconic lineup.     Big Shot Bob – Ep 187 – You Need a Cochlear Implant

    Rob joins us live from Napa Valley as he’s travelling again this week, but jumps right into the outstanding play of Anthony Davis so far this season and where he thinks the Lakers need to tighten up. For Rob that’s mostly due a young coach in JJ having no faith in his bench, but he needs to get a hold of that for the Lakers to make a deep run. We’re also surprised at how good the Cavs have been out of the gate, but Rob warns Donovan Mitchell to remember to let his teammates help and not put it all on his shoulders. Plus Jayson Tatum talks about being passed over by the Lakers in the 2017 Draft, and Rob says he understands why that happened because they needed a guard. His surprise came more from them passing on DeAaron Fox and taking Lonzo Ball.   There are also some sinking ships that need to be discussed early on – and we start with the 1-6 Milwaukee Bucks, who have not looked cohesive to start this season, even though Giannis and Dame have both played well. And with losses like this come the rumors that Giannis is going to ask for a trade out of Milwaukee, so we play some “what if” scenarios with teams like the Brooklyn Nets and the Chicago Bulls. That also leads us into the Philadelphia 76ers who are also only carrying one win into the third week of the season, and everyone on the show feels like the Sixers live and die with Embiid, and with him sitting out it will get worse before it gets better.   We also have beefs to get into this week! We start with Kevin Durant vs Stephen A Smith, which is hard for us to understand due to Stephen A’s platform and reach – and Rob feels like KD is way too sensitive for a guy who wants to be the star of his team. The other beef of the week went down between DeMar DeRozan, who was happy to honor Vince Carter during his number retirement, and Drake who of course got himself into the middle of something again. And Jenners brings up the Miami Heat who hoisted a banner in honor of Bam Adebayo becoming a US Gold Medalist, and that sets everyone off on legacy recognition.   We wrap it up with the funniest poster of the week, which went down in the Baylor-Gonzaga game – Rob shares that the kid that got dunked into the Earth was the coach’s son, which makes it that much funnier!     Big Shot Bob – Shoot Around Ep 70 – That Diva Robert Horry

    After an Iowa Track & Field star clocked a 4.12 40 during halftime of the Hawkeyes game, it leads us to open the show with Robert Horry’s second homework assignment of the week. He wanted to know what athletes could excel in other sports – and Jenners asks about NBA players specifically who we think could play in the NFL. Names like LeBron and Ant of course pop up, but Rob goes with the obvious picks of Charlie Ward and Jalen Suggs, who both played college football.   As the season unfolds, Rob also wants to know what Wemby can do to put on weight before we get too far in, especially after that video surfaced this week of Stephen Adams backing him down in the post and there was nothing Wemby could do to stop him. Plus after Anthony Richardson checked himself out of the Colts game, it reminds Rob of the time he pulled himself out of a game, but not because he was tired but because he was mad at Latrell Sprewell. Listeners also want to know what Rob thought about Chris Paul taking a swing at Dillon Brooks in the scrum this week, and Rob says that if you wanted to fight a guy in his day you just did it, or met at center court like Kobe and Reggie Miller.   We have even more listener questions on the table, including – Are the Magic poised for a breakout season? Is Russell Westbrook cooked, or just in the wrong system in Denver as Rob suggests? We dive into that, and acknowledge the NBA Halloween costume of the year… which goes to the guy who dressed up like Manu Ginobili and his girlfriend who dressed up as the bat he swatted out of the air during a game!

    Big Shot Bob – Ep 186 – Laurence Fishburne Passing a Kidney Stone

    Rob is live from Houston as the Rockets celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1994-95 NBA Championship, which breaks into a conversation about what teams are beholden to their last championship and need to find a way past it. And of course we open with the wild conversation about the Dwyane Wade statue – as we all think it was really bad, but it appears that Wade had a hand in approving it before it was unveiled. We love that D-Wade got his statue, and Rob jokes that he ever were to get one he would want to make sure it looks exactly like him.   Plus the Lakers have come out of the gates strong, winners of three of their first four games, and Rob is happy with the system he’s seeing so far from LA. JJ is now the front runner to win Coach of the Year which is a hilarious “way too early” prediction for Harper. Rob likes the limited look of plays that the Lakers have rolled out, which is keeping the offense simple. Joel Embiid also got T’d up even though he hasn’t played a game yet this season, due to “left knee management”, which scares everyone about how the Sixers season will play out if he remains on the bench. Jenners also has a wild NBA stat about Ben Simmons that further infuriates the show.   Everyone on the show rolls out their homework for Rob, which was to lay out the six teams from the East and the West that will make the Playoffs this season… and of course everyone’s opinions waver wildly, with a few exceptions. We also touch on the Indiana Fever parting ways with Christie Sides, the WILD end of the OKC-New Orleans game with two buzzer-beater threes, and the total meltdown from the Washington Commanders radio booth after last week’s Hail Mary to win the game. Plus an inspiring Big Shot of the Week to a woman in LA who saved a young girl’s life, and a round of “Build me a Statue” as a salute to D-Wade’s wild one that was unveiled this week.
