    Exclusive interview with the Chief of UNCTAD, Chantal Line Carpentier

    Dr. Chantal Line Carpentier currently serves as Chief of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) New York office of the Secretary-General. Prior to 2014, she was actively involved in the successful negotiations of the Sustainable Development Goals for the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). During her tenure with DESA, she served as the Major Groups coordinator to enhance non-state actors engagement with the United Nations. She facilitated the participation of more than 10,000 non-state actors -a record- in the United Nations Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable development and was also the DESA focal point for sustainable consumption and production, food security and sustainable agriculture. Prior to joining the United Nations, she served as Head of the Trade and Environment Program of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Commission for Environmental Cooperation (2000-2007), as policy analyst for the Wallace Institute for Alternative Agriculture (1998-2000) and as post doc for the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in the Brazilian Amazon (1996-1998). Dr. Carpentier has consulted to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OCDE) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). She was chosen for the Ideagen 2016 100 Individuals and Organization empowering women and girl, is a 2006 Yale World Fellow and a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Who’s Who’s of Women and the Environment. She has co-authored a book on Ethical Investing (2008) and regularly publishes journal, articles, book chapters and Secretary-General reports on the intricate relationships between sustainable development policies, trade, equality and agriculture.

    Exclusive Interview with the Alliance for Children Everywhere, Cari Armbruster

    With a heart for orphans and vulnerable children in some of the world’s poorest countries, Cari Armbruster’s present role as Executive Director at Alliance for Children Everywhere stems from a seasoned career in nursing, healthcare administration, and family advocacy positions.  For 11 years, Cari held a series of fulfilling nursing and organizational roles at Seattle Children’s Hospital before starting her dedicated volunteer path with orphans in 2001.  With a natural affinity for producing health related policies and procedures, and leading teams she helped to develop standards of care for a temporary crisis care facility in Zambia that has been advocating for children and families since 1999.   An Alliance for Children Everywhere Board member for seven years, Cari provided consistent and thoughtful counsel to the Founder and Executive Director before being appointed to the role herself in January 2015. Cari’s leadership has brought the organization through a successful transition from the Founder and expanded its role as a thought leader and model for child and family welfare practices. Her passion for child welfare, family empowerment, and education for the world’s most vulnerable children and their families is evident throughout every aspect of the ACE partnership. Cari has led the organization to be a recognized expert practitioner, and primary partner to the Zambian government as they implement a new care system for children separated from family. Cari resides in Edmonds, Washington (USA) with her husband, Erich, and two children, where they enjoy many Pacific Northwest outdoor activities as well as being active in their local church community.

She was serving as CEO of both Siemens USA and Dresser-Rand, a Siemens business, when appointed to lead Otis in 2017.  “People make a decision every day about what kind of work they’re going to do,” she says. “That’s what I love about Otis people – they know that what we do matters. Across 200 countries and territories, we service 2 million units and touch 2 billion people every day to keep the world moving.” In 2017, Judy was named to the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in Technology and received the Excellence in Leadership Award from the International Society of Automation.
