Fit Soul Chapter - 17 - Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

Hey, what's up. It's Ben Greenfield. You may have heard that I wrote a new book. It's free at fitsoulbook.com as a digital download. You can also get the physical version for next to nothing. I'm not making any money off this book. I'm just covering my shipping and handling and printing costs. I just want you to experience some of the things I've written within the pages.
Now, because of that, I'm also recording the audio book version, and I want to give you a bit of a taste of that audio book version.
If you like it all the resources and everything for what you're about to hear are at fitsoulbook.com/resources.
So I hope you enjoy this chapter and you can always find me on social media at Ben Greenfield Fitness on most social media platforms. And perhaps there you can just let me know what you think.
So without further ado, here we go.

How To Become A "Sheepdog," Grappling With Weapons, Making Yourself Harder To Kill, Are There Fringe Navy SEAL Smart Drugs & Much More With Tim Kennedy.

    BenGreenfieldFitness.com/timkennedy
My wife and I recently immersed ourselves in a three-day close quarter combat and firearm and personal defense training course called "Sheepdog-Response".
We experienced hours upon hours of grappling, close quarter combat, situational awareness, firearm training and much more.
We were feeling a bit sore and beat up at the end, but definitely more prepared for any “curveballs” life may throw at us. I think these types of skills, along with skills such as wilderness survival, plant foraging, hunting, etc. are really good ways to ensure that one is prepared for life in general.
I was so impressed with the course, that I decided to get the founder of Sheepdog, Tim Kennedy, on the podcast to talk about it, and much, much more.
If you haven't heard of Tim, then you definitely need to know about this guy.
Tim is a retired American mixed martial artist and current soldier.
A fighting professional from 2001 until 2016, he has fought in the UFC, Strikeforce, the WEC, ShoMMA, HDNet Fights, and represented the Chicago Red Bears in the IFL.
Kennedy is one of the few fighters to simultaneously serve in the United States Army while also fighting professionally. He also is a television host, producer, and entrepreneur. Tim completed Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training, Airborne School, Special Forces Assessment and Selection and the Special Forces Qualification Course.
In 2007, he completed Ranger School and was assigned to the 7th Special Forces Group, where he served on an Operational Detachments Alpha. During this time he was also a sniper, sniper instructor, and the principal combatives instructor for C Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group. Kennedy deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom multiple times.
In August 2009, Kennedy transitioned from active duty to the Texas Army National Guard's 19th Special Forces Group and served in the position of Special Forces Weapons Sergeant.
Among Kennedy's multiple awards are the Army's Bronze Star Medal with V device, which was awarded for valor under fire. He is now an active, Ranger qualified, Green Beret, Special Forces Sniper with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as other locations around the globe. He was host of the History Channel television series Hunting Hitler which explores alternative theories about Adolf Hitler's death.
He also hosted the show on Discovery Channel Hard to Kill, which he attempted to explore a day in the life of the world's most dangerous occupations. He produced the TV documentary Not a War Story in 2017 and helped co-produce Warriors in 2014, and also produced and hosted Iron Dragon TV. He’s made appearances on Deadliest Warrior and The Ultimate Soldier Challenge.

Why You're Probably Mineral Deficient If You Eat A "Healthy" Diet, How Coffee & Ketosis Affect Your Mineral Status, Is Himalayan Salt Toxic, The Best Bottled Waters & More: The Mineral Fix With James DiNicolantonio.

bengreenfieldfitness.com/mineralfix Micronutrient deficiencies are widespread across the globe in both developed and developing countries. These deficiencies pose a serious threat to long-term health and longevity. Deficiencies in key minerals, such as magnesium and potassium, increase the risk of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It is estimated that 1 out of 3 people in the United States has at least 10 minerals in which they are deficient: potassium, manganese, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, copper, selenium, chromium, molybdenum, and boron.
The Mineral Fix: How to Optimize Your Mineral Intake for Energy, Longevity, Immunity, Sleep and More is a new book on this matter—a comprehensive guide about the role of essential minerals in the human diet. It includes information on all 17 of the essential minerals that humans need for proper physiological function and survival as well as the 5 possibly essential minerals that also have an important role in overall health.
The author of The Mineral Fix and my guest on this podcast, Dr. James DiNicolantonio, is a Doctor of Pharmacy and a cardiovascular research scientist. A well-respected and internationally known scientist and an expert on health and nutrition, Dr. DiNicolantonio has contributed extensively to health policy and has testified in front of the Canadian Senate regarding the harms of added sugars.
You can follow Dr. DiNicolantonio on YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
You can also visit his website at drjamesdinic.com.
During this discussion, you'll discover: -Why adding salt might be a good thing...09:23 -Why healthy people might be more mineral deficient...09:55 -Why glycine may help mitigate negative effects of damage...12:50 -Why Ben puts a teaspoon of salt in his coffee...15:45 -What makes the 17 essential minerals essential..21:00 -Mineral replenishment for adrenal fatigue and exercise recovery...23:35 -The importance of getting a full spectrum of essential minerals and sodium intake...27:05 -The best way to test for all 17 essential minerals...28:30 -Why drinking soft water might make you mineral deficient...33:05 -The top commercial mineral water products...38:00 -James' go-to salt brands...44:30 -Practical ways to fix mineral deficiencies...50:00 -Bicarbonates and electrolyte balance...55:20 -And much more... Love it!

I really appreciate the thought, passion and dedication Ben has. He really makes me think and is my go to on any health related question I have.

More science less other stuff please

I appreciate Ben’s depth of knowledge in the realm of sports, fitness and nutrition. However, his Covid denialism and increased religious tones coupled with ever increasing levels of non scientific ideas and guests make his podcast less trustworthy, at least to me.

staggytrev ,

Worth your time

I may be a plumber from small town New Zealand but I’m gonna be the healthiest kiwi in mind body and spirt! Thanks to Ben and the team for producing the most comprehensive guide to everything! Followed for years and will for more to come!
