    Leighton Smith Podcast #239 - May 15th 2024 - Jonathan Rauch

A sceptical knowledge-seeking society will always welcome controversy, criticism and inquiry, even about ostensibly long-settled ideas.

And free expression plays an indispensable role in society, sorting truth from falsehood.

Jonathan Rauch is a journalist, and author of a number of books.

While a very pleasant interviewee, it will be interesting to see how many of you he will agitate.

We make comment on Pope Francis; again, he is wrong.

Two Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court issue warnings about the state of America.

And once again, we visit The Mailroom.

We have an extensive interview with David Bell, on the expansion of the World Health Organisation’s powers and influence.

In Podcast 238 we take a look at crime, Modern Monetary Theory and Law School ridiculousness.

And visit The Mailroom with Mrs Producer.

    Leighton Smith Podcast #237 - May 1st 2024 - Anthony Willy

    Leighton Smith Podcast #237 - May 1st 2024 - Anthony Willy

"Never before has New Zealand faced a constitutional contest like the one being played out right now.” The opening words to “Guns drawn as Waitangi Tribunal tangle whips up storm.”

So began a column from The Australian. We discuss this scenario with retired judge Anthony Willy, and venture that it’s time to ditch the Waitangi Tribunal. But there's more.

Also, separate comment on decline of the West, political and editorial bias in shaping climate science, and senility at the highest level!

    Mrs Producer joins the mail-room.

Balanced viewpoint

I have listened to Leighton for more than 20 years, of course this is because I am on the same side of his opinions. However what makes the show stand out for me, is the fact he does take on opposite views. And while it is on occasion an echo chamber, the fact Leighton will Liston to both sides of a story and sometimes come to a different conclusion, shows the balance of opinion.

Food for thought

Great topics, interesting guest, insightful questioning, challenging the narrative and good common sense. A must listen!!

Dull

Very dull podcast by a jaded ex talkback hack. Don’t waste your time.
