Managing Unspent Funds in Home Care Packages

What happens if a care recipient is assessed as needing a certain amount of care, and then chooses not to receive it? Well, the outcome isn't great for either the care recipient themselves... or the organisation that is managing their care package... because they've allocated resources based on the care needs of these care recipients. So how do you manage unspent funds? To find out how to prevent care recipients from not using their care budget in case of a 'rainy day', today we have with us Lorraine Poulos Lorraine originally trained as a Registered Nurse before achieving post-graduate qualifications in Health Service Management and Adult Education. Her past roles include Chief Executive Officer of the Aged Care Channel, Director of Aged and Community Care for a large multi-purpose organisation, and was a Nurse Advisor and Administrator for the Department of Health. Now, Lorraine is a member of two not-for-profit aged care boards, and her team at Lorraine Poulos and Asscoiates (LPA) specialise in supporting providers of Disability, Health, Residential and Community Care in Australia.  See here for a list of workshops that Lorraine is conducting in the near future This episode of The Aged Care Executive Podcast is proudly brought to you by W&L Mobile Healthcare Services, delivering mobile allied health and dental services to improve the quality of life of all Australians  Find us at http://agedcareexecutive.com.au/, https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-aged-care-executive-podcast/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/agedcareexecutive/ Relax by Simon More https://soundcloud.com/user73416670 CC BY 3.0 Music provided by Music for Creators https//youtu.be/yoKFVEmPHmw

Understanding, Developing, and Implementing Additional Services

Aged care funding is getting tighter. There's increased transparency in competition due to the My Aged Care website and most organisations' increased online presence. So organisations are looking for ways to differentiate themselves AND improve their sustainability. Offering additional services seems to be one of the answers.  What does a good additional services program look like? In this episode we're joined by James Saunders as we cover: What is the difference between additional services and extra services? The starting point if an organisation is considering implementing additional services Tips for getting staff on board What types of additional services programs don't seem to be successful The opt-in vs. opt-out situation that's driving a review of additional services James has a background as a registered nurse, and spent more than 10 years in Director of Nursing roles. He worked as an advisor for Leading Aged Services Australia (LASA), and was the CEO of a large aged care organisation (Cook Care). Now, he's the Senior Manager - Operations for Pride Living.  You can find James at https://prideliving.com.au... and you can find out more about understanding, developing, and implementing additional service offerings here: https://prideliving.com.au/services/operational-management/#1535684960354-94897caf-90a5 This episode of The Aged Care Executive Podcast is proudly brought to you by W&L Mobile Healthcare Services, delivering mobile allied health and dental services to improve the quality of life of all Australians  Find us at http://agedcareexecutive.com.au/, https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-aged-care-executive-podcast/ and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/agedcareexecutive/  Relax by Simon More https://soundcloud.com/user73416670 CC BY 3.0 Music provided by Music for Creators https//youtu.be/yoKFVEmPHmw

How to Promote Residents' Emotional, Spiritual, and Psychological Well-Being

Holy Family Services is an aged care organisation that isn't just excelling in the area of spiritual and pastoral care... they're helping other organisations too. The new accreditation standards are different. They focus on care and quality of life from the person’s perspective (rather than inputs such as medication management, etc). So with this new focus, how can you be best equipped to meet the new standard related to promoting consumers' emotional, spiritual, and psychological well-being? And, more importantly, in a way that actually improves quality of life for consumers AND the staff? We're joined by Carmen Karauda from Holy Family Services. In this episode we cover: - The misconception of religion vs. spirituality and pastoral care - The need for spirituality and pastoral care from an accreditation perspective - How this need is about more than accreditation and is fundamental to overall health - What other outcomes can be observed when focusing on this area of care, and - Recommendations to executive managers We also hear about how they're an RTO, and they're offering the Diploma of Ageing and Pastoral or Spiritual Care (find out more here http://www.holyfamilyservices.com.au/registered-training-organisation/courses.aspx) This episode of The Aged Care Executive Podcast is proudly brought to you by W&L Mobile Healthcare Services (https://www.wellnesslifestyles.com.au/), delivering mobile allied health and dental services to imporve the quality of life of all Australians.
