On the 4th March 2009, my life changed forever. My Dad, the man I looked up too, the man who in my eyes had 'everything' on paper took his own life. After it happened I struggled to deal with the grief, I buried the pain and found myself asking the question 'why' over and over again. I too then found myself struggling with depression and anxiety. This Podcast is all about documenting not only my own personal journey to discovering more about mental health and suicide, but to also document other stories too. It's time to talk about mental health, it's time to give it the voice it deserves and hopefully this Podcast can provide that. Hopefully this Podcast helps show others that they're not alone...
Paul McGregor is an author, lecturer, a mental health advocate, husband, Father of 2 and avid Liverpool supporter. He shares daily content, giving mental health a voice across multiple social platforms and through speaking and workshops across the UK.

ALEX COSTA Talks Grief, Success and Mental Health - Behind The Reel #6

ALEX COSTA Talks Grief, Success and Mental Health - Behind The Reel #6

THIS WAS A POWERFUL EPISODE. Two weeks ago I had a video call with Alex Costa, where we discussed mental health, his drive to never give up, dealing with grief and his work ethic.
It's funny, I was first connected to Alex through Antonio Centeno (of Real Men Real Style) who let me know Alex was in London. We were trying to arrange to meet up, then randomly bumped into each other at the YouTube space in London. We discussed my switch to mental health, and Alex shared a personal story about his auntie...
Alex also then shared the idea for this series, which is why it was. a real honour to have him on as a guest!
    We spoke about:
    - When he started YouTube and why.
    - His decision to move from gaming videos in Portuguese to men's lifestyle videos in English.
    - The times he felt like giving up, when results weren't coming.
    - His own personal experience with suicide, losing his Auntie and how that shaped his life.
    - His thoughts on mental health, and the importance of talking.
    - As an influencer, how much does he work?
    - Future plans for Alex and his channel.
Even though we were both stuck in lockdown, and it would've been greater to do it in person, it was awesome to hear Alex talk so openly about issues he's faced. His advice around mental health I also try to reinforce to others on a daily basis, however tough things are right now... never give up.
The main purpose behind this series is to show influencers in a light we might not see them from what they share on social media. Social media is very much a highlight reel, and we often forget these are humans behind these profiles.
    Thanks Alex!
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this interview, and don't forget to leave a rating and review.

How To STOP Procrastinating | Coffee With Paul #5

How To STOP Procrastinating | Coffee With Paul #5

I've missed coffee, I've missed answering your questions, and I've missed this Podcast!
In this episode I answer your questions, and talk about dealing with lack of motivation and how to stop procrastinating...
It really is a tough time right now, and from a lot of conversations I've been having I wanted to jump on and talk about how to 'eat that frog' and get stuff done when you're struggling with motivation. I also answer:
    1. How are you dealing with lockdown personally?
    2. You’ve been open about your dark days, what was the biggest change for you that helped you get to where you are today?
    3. You’ve said in a recent live stream you love TikTok, what do you like about it?
    4. What made you decide to stop creating fashion videos and start creating mental health videos?
    5. Do you still think appearance is important to help with how you feel?
    6. How do you manage anxiety when things become unbearable, it’s ok to suggest coping techniques but when it’s really hard to deal with what can I do?
    7. My friends are struggling, but I find it hard to help them especially now… what can I do?
    8. What does it feel like to now be 30?
    9. Favorite place to buy clothes?
    10. 4 things you’ve got recently you now can’t live without?
    11. 3 books you’d recommend to someone wanting to improve their mindset
    12. How do you deal with procrastination and getting motivated personally?
    13. What’s your plans with YouTube, you haven’t been active for a while?
Got a question you want me to answer in the next episode? Drop it in the comments!

ERIC BANDHOLZ (BEARDBRAND) - Behind The Reel #5

ERIC BANDHOLZ (BEARDBRAND) - Behind The Reel #5

This one I've been holding back for a while, but I was lucky to sit down and chat with Eric Bandholz from Beardbrand.
Aside from Eric's really poor jokes (watch until the end!) we spoke openly about topics such as parenting, business success, finding confidence and infertility.
With Eric's channel having over 1 million subscribers, we really stepped 'behind the reel' in this interview...
    We spoke about:
    - How growing a beard helped him live his truth, and gain confidence.
    - The struggles he and his wife faced trying to become parents.
    - How he balances business with family, and the challenges he faces.
    - The real reason why he started Beardbrand.
    - The lessons he's learnt from failure
    - What advice he would give to somebody wanting to become a YouTuber today...
I hope this conversation helps you as much as it helped me, and I want to once again thank Eric for his time and honesty. The main purpose behind this series is to show influencers in a light we might not see them from what they share on social media. Social media is very much a highlight reel, and we often forget these are humans behind these profiles.

BEST PODCAST AWARD! (Winning A Mind Media Award)

BEST PODCAST AWARD! (Winning A Mind Media Award)

A while back, I featured on a podcast episode for MQ Open Mind. A podcast by the very amazing charity MQ Mental Health. In this episode, I alongside Hannah (from MQ) and Rory O'Connor (suicide researcher) got together to bring awareness for mental health and suicide on world suicide prevention day.
It was a podcast that saw me, share my personal story, with Rory sharing from his research and perspective what may have caused my dad to fall ill like he did.
The podcast was shortlisted for a Mind Media Award and last week, when attending the ceremony, we found out we won!
I talk about the experience in this Podcast episode here, and share some behind the scenes secrets ;)

Could My Dad Still Be Alive?

Could My Dad Still Be Alive?

I recently poured a fresh brew of coffee, grabbed my microphone and hit record. In this episode, I get honest. Talking about a few emotions I've had to deal with and process recently, in the hope that it shows you that it's ok to talk about your emotions. Emotions are normal. Some are more painful than others, but it's not about turning off emotions it's instead learning the best way to manage and process them.
In this episode I talk about 2 emotions I've had to process recently.
    1. Dealing with burnout.
    2. Could my Dad still be alive?
I talk about them in more detail, and hopefully my honesty helps!
To raise awareness for mental health, please leave a rating and review! The more we get, the more exposure this podcast will get.

Depressed and Silent, to A Mental Health Advocate

Depressed and Silent, to A Mental Health Advocate

SORRY! SORRY! SORRY! Firstly, for the lack of recent updates. But hopefully this episode makes up for it :)
This was an old interview, back in summer, with Dave who has his own podcast and we discussed a lot around mental health, masculinity and also my journey.
Back in 2009, just after losing dad, things didn't look great. I found myself in a dark place, at 21 with very little hope. But through seeking help, and through a journey of dealing with the emotions I suppressed I managed to change how I was feeling.
Fast forward over 10 years, and I now share my story and talk openly about mental health full time... whenever I can. But it wasn't an easy ride.
I discuss it with Dave in this Podcast.
    Enjoy!

Esperanza🦋✨ ,

Thank you for creating this podcast

This podcast helped me with my own father’s death. I was 14 when it happened, and it is so nice to hear someone who knows what it feels like to loose a parent to suicide. Thank you for this, more awareness needs to be raised about mental health, especially among men. Hopefully people like you can shift societal gender roles and encourage men to express their emotions. Also, thank you for being so open with your story, you inspire me to do the same. ❤️

Heismybetterhalf ,

Thank you for doing this

Extremely helpful listening to you. My husband and father of our two children passed 4 months ago. Devastating. No signs no messages.
