    55. Cardiology NP with Tranise Goodlow

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Tranise Goodlow, a nurse and cardiology expert who shares her incredible nursing journey. Tranise talks about her early career and how her passion for cardiology grew, particularly after her first nursing job where she developed a deep interest in EKG interpretation. Her journey also includes advanced education, research, and hands-on experience in outpatient cardiology, all of which helped shape her expertise and career path.   Tranise emphasizes the importance of continuous learning in nursing, especially in cardiology. She discusses how nurses can develop confidence in interpreting EKGs and highlights the risks of relying too heavily on computer-generated interpretations. One key takeaway is the value of sharing knowledge and making learning engaging for others, which helps nurses stay up-to-date and avoid the pitfalls of knowledge hoarding.   We also dive into the opportunities available for nurses interested in cardiology, including locum work and the path to becoming a Cardiology Nurse Practitioner. Tranise offers valuable advice for those navigating career challenges, transitioning into cardiology, or seeking to expand their knowledge and skills. Whether you're looking to specialize or broaden your practice, this episode is packed with inspiration and practical tips for advancing your nursing career.   What you'll hear in this episode: [0:40] Meet Tranise Goodlow [1:15] Educational Background and Early Career [3:15] Journey into Cardiology [6:25] Advanced Education and Research [12:00] Outpatient Cardiology Experience [14:30] Transition to Medical Science Liaison [18:35] Exploring Locum Work [24:20] The Value of EKG Knowledge in Nursing [27:45] Advice for Aspiring Cardiology Nurse Practitioners [30:05] Navigating Career Challenges and Changes   Learn more about Dr. G https://drgthenp.com/ Connect with Dr. G on IG @drgthenp Connect with Dr. G on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/drgoodlow Connect with Dr. G on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/login/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FDrGtheNP%2F   Shop Rebel Nurse: https://shoprebelnurse.com/

This week on the podcast we have April Waddell BSN, RN and money guru of Nurse Money Date. April is originally from the Philippines and moved to the US when she was 5 years old.  She spent most of her life in the Chicago area.  She started her nursing career in pediatrics!  She has a little brother and always knew that she wanted to work with kids.  Upon nursing school graduation, she started in a pediatric ICU:  her dream job. However, burn out set in and was only made worse by the COVID-19 pandemic.  So April started brainstorming about other areas of life that interested her:  enter finance.  Like so many of us, she has debt from nursing school.  So she made a full effort to pay that debt off.   She and her husband also made the effort to save over 50% of their income!!  This set the stage for their move to Australia and for April to start her business coaching nurses in all things finance.  In 2021, she started Nurse Money Date.  The mission of her business is to educate and coach nurses around getting out of debt, saving, and investing.  She also focuses on the mindset around money.  So many of our beliefs and attitudes about money dictate our actions.  I am so excited for you all to listen to this episode!  Unlock 175+ exciting job opportunities and innovative ways to leverage your nursing degree with our FREE email guide. 49. Living Room International with Juli Boit

This week on the podcast we Juli Boit, NP, BSN, of Living Room International.  When I tell you I was humbled…I mean it! Juli went to nursing school at Azusa Pacific and graduated in 2001.  She started her nursing journey at Cedars Sinai on a floor taking care of HIV/AIDs patients.  While she was in nursing school, she went on nursing trips to Kenya and continued that as a nurse working for a nonprofit.     In 2004, she moved to western Kenya to work with Kenyan leaders she had met on short term trip and worked for Empowering Lives International (a non-profit). During her time there, she really wanted to start working more with hospice patients.  The nonprofit she worked for at the time did not have that specific mission.  Therefore, Living Room International was born.  At Living Room International, they address the growing needs of hospice and palliative care in Kenya. They started a small community hospital, have 150 Kenyan staff and serve over 100,000 people/patients annually.  In addition to that!  Julie has also written 2 books:  “From Beyond the Skies” (2021) and “Brave Love” (2023).  In these books she talks about the adoption process, caring for chronically ill children (with sickle cell anemia), bone marrow transplants, and the return to Kenya.  Juli and her family live in Kenya for about 10 months out of the year and they come back to the Los Angeles area for 2 months out of the year.  In this episode she talks about her nursing journey, compassion, compassion fatigue, nursing abroad…all the things.    Unlock 175+ exciting job opportunities and innovative ways to leverage your nursing degree with our FREE email guide.
