If you were alive from 1945 - 1990, the Cold War was an ever-present reality. We grew up being told that the world could end any minute - and you probably wouldn't know it was coming until it hit. On this series we're going DEEP on the Cold War - why it happened, how it happened and where it left us. As with our other hit podcast series, this show contains heavy doses of bad language, irreverent humour and singalongs.

    “Empire By Invitation”

European recipients of the Marshall Plan funds were quite clear to the USA that they needed help keeping the socialists down and out of their countries. And the USA recognized that its own economic welfare rested on the revival of Europe. Funding a pro-capitalist European recovery was a matter of national self-interest.

    The Creation of NATO

We want to take a break from Korea to talk about the creation of NATO. Obviously relevant with the whole Ukraine situation. And it took on a new kind of mission during the Korean War. But let’s go back and look at where it came from.

The Double Life of Katharine Clark

Today we're talking to Katharine Gregorio, author of "The Double Life of Katharine Clark, The Untold Story of the American Journalist Who Brought the Truth about Communism to the West". An epic in every sense of the word.

At times you may forget you are listening to a cold war podcast as much of the early episodes deal with the end of the second world war. But of course this setup is both needed and apprieciated, giving us an incredibly deep context that sets the stage with all its actors and set pieces. If this seems tedious to you, have no fear as Cam and Ray carries us forward through the history with a great deal of laughter and jokes (not suitable for inlaws, your stuck-up boss or boring people). If nothing else excites you, at the very least you must listen to the fabulous character portrayals of Churchill, Stalin and FDR. It certainly got me hooked!

The Limoncello is strong with this one

Currently in the depths of wirting my master's thesis, Cam & Ray are keeping me sane through an insightful and witty journey across the cold war (and beyond) can't reccomend it enough, great stuff!!
