From Writing Crime to Solving a Murder: The Story of Lois Duncan

Horrifying History Podcast

When I was a tween I loved reading books by Lois Duncan.  Summer of Fear was my favourite, and I still read my original dog eared copy every now and then.    This teen novel starts when the main characters aunt is killed, and soon she starts to suspect that her orphaned cousin is trying to take over her life using witchcraft.

All of Lois’s books were filled with horror, thrills, and suspense, but it wasn’t until I was an adult that I learned that Lois’s life was also filled with horror.  When her teenaged daughter was murdered, Lois made the decision stop writing young adult novels and solve her child’s murder.

So settle in my spooky friends.  You are about to hear how a woman used to write about horror, and soon found herself in the middle of every mother’s nightmare.
