  • Wild Rule Breaking Season 3 Finale with Dr Billy Garvey

Wild Rule Breaking Season 3 Finale with Dr Billy Garvey

Behavioural Paediatrician Dr Billy Garvey returns to tell us about the science behind the stories of Season 3.  Dr Billy has picked some moments where our generous guests have touched on areas on which there is lots of evidenced based research, and then he breaks it down to some super simple stuff that we can all put into practice. In this stacked episode we look at… Improving self esteem through kids developing mastery of something (Bret McKenzie Ep), how to be an authoritative parent, not an authoritarian and how there is a big difference! (Wippa’s Ep), talk about composure and how important our own self regulation is (Nathan Fa’avae Ep), the importance of making sure we are always adapting our parenting based on the kid that is in front of us (Andy Griffiths Ep), the power of working on ourselves and the protective elements that can help kids avoid trauma or help them deal with it (Wayne Hope Ep) and why being honest with our kids and creating an a safe environment where they can always tell what they think is so important (Paddy Brammall Ep). Some really great stuff. Huge thanks to Billy.  He is so generous with his time to listen to all our episodes and apply his clinical wisdom.  You can get more of Billy and his podcast Pop Culture Parenting HERE or his great book, 10 Things I Wish You Knew About Your Child’s Mental Health.  Equally huge thanks to all our guests that came on this season and shared their stories and wisdom. Obviously this podcast wouldn’t exist without their generosity and we were so lucky to chat with them. And giant thanks to you guys for listening and taking an interest. We love making this show and it’s a great privilege to have you guys tune in.  Xx Hame & Tim — And lastly a tip of the cap to our fantastic sponsor HERTZ who are instrumental in making this podcast happen.  We are all about getting out there and adventuring with your kids, and HERTZ can help you make it happen. BONUS EP: Introducing "The Montoyas"

*Warning - Bad Language Not For Small Ears* We wanted to share a brand-new podcast from iHeartRadio with you! The Montoyas is hosted but Rugby League player Marcelo Montoya and his hilarious wife Tayla as they lift the lid on their marriage.  If you like what you hear, follow the podcast on iHeartRadio or wherever you get your podcasts. Follow: @themontoyaspodcast on TikTok and Instagram About the Podcast: Rugby League star Marcelo Montoya is a clean freak who makes sure everything in his life is ”just so”. His wife Tayla thrives on annoying her husband with her form of hilarious disorder, constantly keeping him on his toes. Once they start talking, the conversation could end up anywhere.     Join in as The Montoya’s lift the curtain on the life and relationship of Aussie imports assimilating into New Zealand as a newly married couple. Think Keeping Up with the Kardashians crossed with Modern Family and tune in for the podcast you never knew you needed.  About The Hosts: Tayla Montoya is an ex-cheerleader, and current radio producer for Jono and Ben on The Hits. Her roots are from a large Italian Australian family, with all the passion and fire that comes with that. Most importantly, she is like that friend at the BBQ that is constantly surprising the group with a new questionable take,  internet-based obsession or just something to annoy her husband. Marcelo Montoya is a Fijian Australian professional rugby league player and brings insight into what it actually means to be a professional sportsman. He is a little bit bogan, and a whole lot of a perfectionist. He strives for everything in his life to be centered and deliberate so he can perform at the highest level, while contending with his wife’s need to try and throw him off balance. Episode 170: Amanda Ross

Amanda Ross is a highly influential TV producer who has brought us the likes of Saturday Kitchen which celebrates its 20th anniversary next year, the Richard and Judy show which ran for 9 years, and the book show, Between the Covers, which she is now touring live and presenting herself.  Amanda and her husband and business partner Simon Ross, own and run Cactus TV. Amanda told me that running their own TV company means that they can organise their lives around bringing up their two adopted sons, now aged 16 and 19. TRIGGER WARNING: Amanda also revealed to me that she suffered sexual abuse from her stepfather as a child. She wanted to share her story here, so that other people who might have gone through similar ordeals can, like her, learn that it wasn’t their fault, and that they should not feel guilty about what happened to them. Amanda's other big message is: just do everything with your children because you can take your kids anywhere. It’s just about attitude. Spinning Plates is presented by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, produced by Claire Jones and post-production by Richard Jones. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Ding Dongs Merrily

This is the time to look back over the past twelve months and all that's happened thus far. Plus, winter poorly baby worries (we're talking rash anxiety, guys), winter colds and flu's and hyper-panicked visits to A&E (oh, we've all been there). But on the other (dafter) side, juicy boots, Christmas party mornings-afters and how best to pronounce Petit Filou. Seriously.
