The Urban Sports Insider podcast explores the world of urban group sports, and culture through conversation. Hosted by a member of the NYC runner and arts community, Marcus Hedgpeth, the podcast delves into the nuances of participating in group sports, the politics surrounding sport, the ways participating in athletics has benefited each guest, and what role health and movement play in their daily lives.     In episode 12 host Marcus speaks with Jerry & Ashley of NYC's rebellious running crew Gold Finger Track Club. Jerry Francois started his clothing label Gold Finger and later GFTC out of a feeling of not having access, and wanting to create something of his own for him & his friends and other people looking for more inclusivity in those worlds. A great component of the way GFTC operates is the positive vibe they embody and ask of all their members "Gold Vibes Only" as they say. GFTC is an inspiring group of young people trying to do something different and supporting each other in this age of individualism.

    11 - Resident Runners

    In episode 11 of the Urban Sports Insider Podcast, host Marcus speaks with Ray & Eric, co-founders of Resident Runners. RR is a small group of 3 guys who train together and lead weekly group runs in Brooklyn, NY. Their collective personalities have set themselves apart from other groups in NYC and they've gained lots of attention considering it's a small group of 3 guys, even being featured on the cover of Runners World Magazine. The crew's camaraderie & laid-back approach to running while still being known as a fast group has attracted runners from all over to their runs, and they're infamous for their monthly "Taco Run". It's awesome seeing what a small group of friends can accomplish, and really highlights the importance of having a community around you.

    In episode 10 host Marcus speaks with Jessie Zapo, founder of Girls Run NYC, original co-captain of The NYC Bridgerunners, co-founder of Black Roses NYC, and ambassador for Adidas Women & Adidas Running. The episode dives into Jessie's background and how she came up in the NYC & global running scene. Jessie speaks about running & creativity as wellness tools, how Girls Run has been active in giving back to the community, style, and her daily routines. Episode 10 is a great opportunity to get to know Jessie a little better and to gain some perspective on the evolution of urban running crews in NYC.

    In episode 8 we speak to @marsgreen founder of @districtrunningcollective. Seeing the global running community grow, Matt decided he needed to bring that energy to DC and to bring their energy to the world. DRC has grown into a family of hundreds of runners that hit the pavement together in the Nation’s Capital and abroad. We speak about representation of runners in the POC community, the changing landscape of the DMV area and how running is changing lives.

    7 - Mike Saes

    In episode 7 host Marcus Hedgpeth speaks with Mike Saes - the founder, and co-captain of the New York City Bridgerunners who have been blazing the trails of the urban running scene since its inception in NY and around the world. Saes speaks about how his days as a graffiti writer running from the cops at night inspired him to create this community of runners with attitude who take having fun just as seriously as the miles. Bridgerunners were the first in on the scene of urban running groups that exist now, but as they celebrate 15 years in 2018 they and Mike look forward to changing more lives, and continuing to explore this beautiful city, and the world.
