Space Junk Zooms Over California

Do you look at the sky at night? Well, one night in California, people saw a big, bright light. It zoomed across the sky. Maybe it was a plane or a shooting star. But… it was falling to the Earth!
你會抬頭看晚上的天空嗎? 加州有一天晚上，民眾看到一道很亮的光，劃過天空。那可能是飛機或是流星。但是它卻掉到了地球上!

Later, scientists said it was a piece of a rocket. Pieces of broken or old rockets and satellites are space junk.
後來科學家說那是火箭的碎片。舊的火箭、衛星的碎片都是太空垃圾。

Millions of pieces of space junk zoom around the Earth. The pieces can zoom 28,000 kilometers an hour! They're a big problem! Space junk can hit satellites or spaceships.
數以百萬計的太空垃圾碎片繞著地球轉，它們移動的速度可以高達每一小時2萬8千公里，可能會打到衛星或太空船。

Sometimes space junk falls to the Earth. Scientists said the space junk falling over California was about 1,500 kilograms! But no one found it. Metal becomes very, very hot when it falls to the Earth. Maybe the space junk burned up!
科學家說掉在加州的太空垃圾重達1500公斤，但是沒有人找到。可能它掉落的時候，金屬過熱，整個燒掉了。

Scientists are finding ways to clean up space junk. They want to keep everyone safe from it.
科學家也在想辦法清理太空垃圾，保護大家安全。

Maybe you'll see a bright light zooming across the night sky too. Maybe it will be a plane or a shooting star. Or maybe it'll be space junk!

Marathons are very long runs. They're about 42 kilometers long! Many people never run a marathon. But one British man ran 385 marathons in less than a year!

This British man ran in Africa. He ran from the most southern place to the most northern place. He ran through 16 countries.

He had some problems during the run. Somebody stole his money and phone. He got very sick from eating some bad food. In the Sahara desert, he ran in sandstorms and… snowstorms!
跑步的過程遇到許多困難，有人偷了他的錢包跟手機，他也曾經吃壞肚子。在撒哈拉沙漠，他還遇到沙塵暴跟暴風雪。

The man ran for two charities. One charity helps young people who have no homes. The other helps Indigenous people in the Sahara desert. People around the world gave them money because he ran. They gave over one million British pounds. That's over $42 million Taiwan dollars!
全世界的人都因為他捐款給兩家慈善機構，一家幫助無家可歸的青少年，另一家幫助撒哈拉沙漠的原住民，募款金額超過100萬英鎊，相當於4200多萬台幣。

Dragon Boat Racing in Alabama, USA!

Huh? What's that sound? That's right. Today is the Dragon Boat Festival!
那是什麼聲音?今天是端午節!

That sound is a drum. The drum helps the people racing in a dragon boat. Those people are paddlers. They use paddles to move the boat. They paddle by listening to the drum on their boat.

Working at the Penguin Post Office

Five people from the U.K. got amazing summer jobs. From November to March, they're going to work in Antarctica!

The jobs are at the Penguin Post Office! It's the farthest post office to the south! One thousand five hundred penguins live outside it!

Taipei 101 Stayed Strong During Earthquake

In some places, earthquakes happen a lot. In these places, it's important for buildings to be safe during earthquakes. Engineers need to build strong and steady buildings.
有一些地區常常發生地震，所以這些地區的建築物必須堅固、穩定。

Taiwan had a strong earthquake on April third. Most buildings were fine!
台灣在4月3號發生大地震，但大部分的建築物都沒事。

Taipei 101 was fine too. It's one of the tallest buildings in the world! It was built to be very strong, even during earthquakes.
世界最高建築物之一的台北101也沒事，發生地震的時候，101還是很堅固。

Engineers made Taipei 101 flexible. That means the building can move from side to side. This is important during earthquakes.

Taipei 101 has a very big, shiny ball. This ball is 660 tons! It's inside the building! And it's near the top! It can move from side to side. When the building moves to the left, the ball moves to the right. This helps keep the building safe and steady during an earthquake!
