标题： In China, the master’s degree is the new bachelor’s degree 
College graduates are returning to school just to have a chance in a job market marred by China’s shaky post-pandemic recovery. 

正文：As an  undergraduate  at Peking University, one of China’s most  prestigious  universities, Crystal knew she wanted to end up working at one of the country’s top tech or finance  conglomerate s. Throughout college, Crystal, who spoke  on the condition  that only her first name be used  for fear of reprisal  from her employer for speaking to the press, did all she could to make herself  hirable : she took part in case-study competitions from U.S. management consulting firm Bain & Company, eager to show  versatility  beyond her  humanities  degree, completed four internships at tech companies including ByteDance, the maker of TikTok, and RedNote, China’s version of Instagram, and ranked in the top 10 percent of her 2023 class. Yet her only realistic postgrad option was a master’s degree, delaying her entry into the workforce by two years.
