這一切聽起來是不是非常熟悉？但這不只是現在，更是1918-1920年，美國在大流感（The great influenza）肆虐期間所經歷的事，這個被俗稱為「西班牙流感」的疫病，在一百年前無藥可醫，在一百年後慢慢弱化後成為我們熟悉的H1N1流感，依然凶險，但不致於造成上次那麼嚴重的慘況。
美國的歷史學家、記者約翰巴瑞（John Barry）在2005年出版這本《大流感：致命的瘟疫史（The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History）》時，絕對沒想過，十五年後他書中的一切盡成事實。
