254. Controversial Topic: Is Intermittent Fasting BAD For the Thyroid? YES, Maybe!

Intermittent fasting as a hypothyroid woman, can it be detrimental? Perhaps? Let's say you choose a 16:8 fast, meaning an 8 hour eating window, you must ask yourself...In those 8 hours are you getting in enough calories, nutrients and good, animal based protein? Ladies in those 8 hours are you getting in 3 protein laden, nutritious, good fat containing meals? If the answer is NO, then you shouldn't be doing it! It is going to be detrimental to your thyroid healing! What will happen is your body will go into a starvation mode from the lack of calories, nutrition and protein and it's going to literally shut down your metabolism. And...all this intermittent fasting is going to work against you. Yep, you guessed it...weight gain. In the long run as it relates to your thyroid, your reverse T3 is going to up because your body will recognize this starvation as a stressor. This will also absolutely raise your cortisol levels which will in addition increase reverse T3. Intermittent fasting must be done correctly if you want positive results. The key is, during you window of eating, your nutrition must be impeccably perfect.
