Valerie is a Latino Outdoors Outings Leader in the greater Baltimore area, fostering a sense of belonging for Latinxs in outdoor exploration and elevating their perspectives in conservation efforts. Her connection to the outdoors was shaped by her time as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay, where she focused on environmental education and conservation.

Now pursuing a Ph.D. in Geography and Environmental Systems at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, Valerie's research examines the intersections of Indigeneity, gender, land rights, and global conservation. Born and raised on Piscataway land (Baltimore, Maryland), she is the first U.S.-born child in her family; her mother immigrated from México and her father from the Philippines. Valerie continues to live, study, and work in her hometown.
