    Episode 0132—Cleitus-Scope

    Episode 0132—Cleitus-Scope

In May of 334 BCE, the first of three major battles were fought by the invading army of Alexander the Greece of Macedon against the Persians at the Granicus River.  The victory by Alexander was very early in the campaign that would see Alexander go on to successfully conquer Asia Minor, Egypt, and Persia.
Alexander could have died on the field that day were it not for the intervention of Cleitus the Black, one of his commanders, at a critical moment on the heat of the battle.
How would history have been different if the fatal blow had landed and Alexander had died essentially before his ten-year-long campaign conquest had barely begun?
Eric Bond joins for this episode.

Episode 0131—Little MAC (Move After Christmas)

Episode 0131—Little MAC (Move After Christmas)

From March to July in 1862, the Union army under the command of Gen. George B. McClellan launched the "Peninsula Campaign" as a major offensive and came very near to capturing the Confederate capital of Richmond.  In the real historical timeline, the nearly-defeated Confederate forces came under the command of Gen. Robert E. Lee and eventually achieved the Union army's withdrawal. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula_campaign)

What if the outcome had been different not only for the course of the war but the Reconstruction to follow with an earlier Union victory during this campaign in 1962?

Robert Cocheu joins our Chris Coppola for this episode.

    Episode 0129—Can-ABE-bal

    Episode 0129—Can-ABE-bal

In 1846, Donner Party set out on their ill-fated trek across the continent to California facing challenges, starvation, and other hardships with almost half of the original contingent dying in route and rumors of desperate acts being undertaken to survive.

Few know of the connection that future president Abraham Lincoln had to the group and how he and his wife were invited to be part of the group and their move to California.

How would history have been different if Abe had chosen to head to California?

Eric Bond joins the episode to discuss the topic he suggested.

Cyn Lat ,

I’m not really interested in history, but I enjoy this podcast.

I’m a bit biased because Don is my brother-in-law and Alexis is my niece, and I probably wouldn’t have stumbled on this podcast were it not for that relationship. Nonetheless, I continue listening not because of familial obligations but because the content is interesting and they present history in a totally different light Plus, it’s obvious they have researched the topics in advance because they always offer some interesting insights. If my high school history teachers had taken a similar approach, perhaps I wouldn’t have to rely on a podcast to discover that history can be interesting. Thanks, Don and Alexis!

Great to see!

Great stuff! Measured, well reasoned speculation that does a great job at avoiding extreme political preaching and instead treats history with a professional, moderate approach.
Interesting propositions, including some classic what ifs and many listeners might not have thought of!
