A Heart For Forming A Political Conscience

Universal Voices/Voces Universales

Universal Voices is back with an all new A Heart For mini-series. In this episode, Alissa welcomes Julie Walsh to share about her heart for forming a political conscience. This episode is packed with goodness as Julie shares her heart around what it is to integrate our moral and political lives. Julie and Alissa dive into:

  • The value of time alone and time with people
  • Thinking of politics in regards to how it helps us to relate to one another
  • The Truth found in the Universal Catholic Church
  • Helping to create welcome in our communities
  • Politics as it relates to our spirituality
  • Letting go of either/or thinking in favor of thinking critically
  • The value of persuasion and political discussion when done in good will

Julie Varner Walsh’s life has always centered around politics and her Catholic faith, and that has made for some strange combinations. Raised in a politically-active Republican family, she worked mostly with Democrats when she was a lobbyist for the Catholic Church on poverty, immigration, and health care matters. Today she finds herself politically homeless, but not politically aimless. Julie has found purpose in encouraging people to look beyond labels, and to focus more on the moral implications of politics than the partisan horse race. Julie lives in Maryland with her husband and five children.
