EP 84: Killing Me Softly with MaRah and Taz

Hey friends! This week Syd welcomes two special guests, MaRah and Taz who host the true crime podcast, Sistas Who Kill that focuses on Black women who commit crimes. They share their unique perspective on why they chose to explore Black female killers/victims and how they navigate the complexities of discussing race and gender in their show.
Throughout the episode, we delve into some of the most intriguing cases they have covered and discuss the ways in which society often stereotypes and misunderstands Black women who commit crimes. Both ladies provide insight into how they strive to shed light on the individual stories and circumstances of each case, rather than perpetuating harmful myths and biases. We also touch on the importance of giving a platform to underrepresented voices and communities, and how this can challenge our preconceived notions and broaden our understanding of the world around us.
Keep up with the latest cases MaRah and Taz are covering on their show by giving them a follow on Instagram @SistasWhoKillPod

    EP 83: Putting Me First

Well, well, well, look who it is! You guys life has been very busy as of lately. Between additional opportunities, work, vacation and just life, the schedule has been packed. But Syd is back in the studio for a quick solo catch up. The episode is inspired by Kari Faux’s single, Me First, which is an affirmation about not neglecting your needs. Even Kari herself said in an interview, “it’s really a self-love bop for the twerkers.” Syd chats about the difficulties of putting yourself first. Whether it's setting boundaries, stepping outside of yourself or learning when to say no, these are practices most people aren’t taught and have to learn how to put into practice. Yet, taking care of yourself is the easiest path to happiness and fulfillment because when your needs are met you can easily meet others.

EP 82: Creating Authentically w/ Lonette

We’re back with a new episode and this week’s guest appearance is long overdue. Syd is happy to be joined by Lonette, creator & host of the online platform, AuthenticityTV. On the platform, she showcases authentic conversations on topics within the black community, such as online dating, entrepreneurship, polyamory and much more. During this episode, the ladies discuss the ups and downs of being a content creator. Today, you’re not only being pushed to produce content 24/7 but competing with thousands of other creators for the decreasing attention span of consumers. While you can opt to say the most outrageous thing for a viral moment to stand out in the creator economy, you’ll need to be creative, authentic and consistent.
Support a Black creative this Black History Month and tune into AuthenticityTV, available on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. You can also give Lonette a follow for the latest at @_lonette.

EP 81: Gotta Blacken The Place Up w/ Rodney & Jenn

Hey friends! We’re back with a new episode and new guests. Syd is joined by friends of the show and ex-coworkers whom she loves, Jenn and Rodney. Despite no longer working together the three have tons in common including being Black employees within corporate America. Despite all efforts by corporations to drive more diversity, equity and inclusion internally, research has proven time and time again Black employees face more stress compared to other groups. Workplace cultures and policies don’t always create equitable work environments for Black professionals. Throughout the episode the trio discuss creating a work life balance, the politics of emails and so much more. The episode ends with a quick snippet about the latest fraudsters in the news.
