Nascar Aloe and Myagi of DEATHPROOF INC.

This week on the podcast, Joel Madden is joined by hardcore rappers Nascar Aloe and Myagi, the founder/curator behind the artist collective/record label DEATHPROOF INC.
After releasing his signature punk-inspired music on Soundcloud several years ago, Nascar Aloe made a name for himself in the underground rap scenes in Charlotte, North Carolina and LA, and developed a devout fanbase, drawn to his arresting sound, style, and energy. Most recently, the rapper dropped the single "BLXXDY NXSE" with Jasiah and Scarlxrd, but last year saw the release of his album AMERICAN WASTELAND on DEATHPROOF INC. — making his interview along with Myagi, a longtime collaborator, the perfect pairing. Eyedress

From humble beginnings in the Phillipines, to Arizona, to LA, Eyedress has managed to stay clique agnostic, moving through the world authentically with his laidback skater vibe. The conversation comes at an opportune time, as Eyedress dropped the lo-fi punk mixtape COMMITTING CRIMES earlier this year and recently announced his signing to RCA records, along with the release of the Eddie Huang-directed music video for his latest single “Flowers & Chocolate.”

    Josh Katz of Badflower

    Josh Katz of Badflower

In this episode, Joel chats with Josh Katz of Badflower about the song that propelled him out of acting like the cool, confident guy to going out on stage as himself for the first time, micro vs. macro dosing, finding your cheerleaders in life, and how emo music is a kind of meditation that helps people make sense of their own anguish and come out the other side. Katz offers a glimpse into what's in store for 2023, as Badflower prepares to release the follow-up to 2021’s sophomore album This Is How the World Ends and set out on the Asking For A Friend Tour with support from Des Rocs and Blood Red Shoes later this month.

Great Podcast

What a refreshing, genuine podcast. I initially gave this a try because Good Charlotte was a major part of my life growing up, and the premise of the podcast seemed interesting. Doesn’t disappoint. Joel is a great interviewer. He really lets the artists speak while somehow still offering opinions and insights here and there. This is not a “plug my newest album” interview. You’re really getting to know them. If you want to be inspired, listen!!!
