Our responsive programming is designed to address immediate and long-term needs such as overnight respite for women in crisis, food, referral services and hygiene facilities. Dégagé’s goal is to assure that every man and woman who we serve knows that he/she is not alone. Many hardships exist in life and none of us are exempt from them. For those 400-500 individuals, we serve daily at Dégagé, many of whom are homeless and low-income, the hardships can be overwhelming—loss of shelter, loss of employment, loss of a loved one, loss of control and loss of opportunity. And with these hardships, they lose much more. Many feel unworthy and hopeless, especially after society has looked down upon them or they have been rejected after repeatedly trying to move forward on their own.

We believe ALL PEOPLE MATTER TO GOD. Our Proactive education engages young people BEFORE the crisis of a pregnancy or STD occurs. Our Responsive medical services provide care during a time of vulnerable crisis in the lives of our community members. H.U.G.S. Ranch's mission is to encourage mental, emotional, physical, and social healing to hurting children and rescued, unwanted, or donated equines by allowing them to share together in experiencing Hope, Understanding, Guidance, and Support in a no-cost, safe, Christian environment. Each session pairs one child with a horse, wrangler and mentor.  During their one-hour session, each child is given a horse. They spend time doing light chores, grooming, riding, exploring their faith and just spending great one on one time together.  In addition to our one on one sessions, we also provide large group sessions.

The West Side of Grand Rapids is a place with a rich history, robust culture, raw grittiness, and beautiful people.  It is the place where we work, live, play and worship, and there is a lot to celebrate in our neighborhood.  At the same time, there are many people here that have endured a lot of hardship and neglect.  And it is in this space between beauty and brokenness that God has called Bridge Street Ministries to build a bridge between the streets and the church, bringing shalom to chaos. Family homelessness is becoming more and more prevalent in our community. Families with children are the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population making up almost 50 percent of those who are homeless in West Michigan.
