BEHIND THE STICK

BEHIND THE STICK

Welcome to Behind the Stick, a new podcast brought to you by the iconic cocktail lounge, The MercBar. On this show, we will bring you interviews with not only hospitality and industry folks, but people from all walks of life that are part of the creative class, innovators and disrupters. We meet a lot of interesting and amazing people while we are "Behind the Stick" and would like to share some of those stories and people with you. For those who don't know the MercBar's origin story, MercBar opened in Soho, NY on Mercer Street in 1993 in an old garage and tile warehouse at 151 Mercer Street. The bar was opened by John McDonald. It was one of the first lounges of its kind and became a gathering place for the downtown art, fashion and entertainment world. The entrance to the bar was a red door off to the side, the bar had no sign, and was meant to be hard to find and hard to access for many years. The bar closed in 2013 when the building was demolished. In 1996 the Phoenix outpost opened in the Biltmore. Over a quarter century later, it has remained a premiere, upscale and sophisticated destination for after work, before or after dinner drinks or late night socializing. The wood paneled modernist interior and the great music selection exudes a certain urban coolness, as do the attractive staff, bespoke cocktails, high quality wines by the glass, and simple bar food in a room that is timeliness, dark and sexy, somewhat transporting you to another place for a short spell.
