ETA I completely understand and agree that we should not victim blame and that it’s understandable to be a trusting person and that is how you can have healthy loving relationships. I also think it would be super important to recommend that women take some basic steps like checking through phones and laptops occasionally and not putting men on their financials before they’ve known them for several years. This is not the same thing as saying it’s their fault because predators took advantage of them but I still say women saying I would never go through the phone. Go through the goddamn phone before your children get sexually abused !!!! I love the show and haven’t written a review yet but after listening to this episode I have to put in my two cents. It alarms me that she moved directly from this traumatizing experience to a male therapist who she views as helping to heal her by “giving her the terminology“ to understand what had happened to her and how to proceed. This is just another example of her relinquishing herself to another person’s mind and ego, and in this case the Therapist dropped the ball. Placing the blame on Aaron for being a “addict“ is conflating the symptom with the cause. He was a narcissist, a textbook narcissist, who just so happened to have opioid use disorder. Those two things are only tangently related but even if he had been sober he would’ve done the same thing. The fact that she was not alerted to narcissistic abuse being the key factor in this situation is alarming. From the first few minutes I started listening and got the basics I already knew everything that was going to happen: taking her money, making her the primary caregiver of the child, him cheating, him either not being in the military or not having a real injury. I know that because he’s an addict? No- I know that because he’s a narcissist. Addicts in general can honestly be some of the least narcissistic and most wonderful caring people so it’s alarming that she has been led to frame this as it was just another dopamine hit. Please “torrah” if you read this you need to look up surviving narcissistic abuse and find counselor who specializes in it, and join the online community of mostly women but some men who have survived this exact scenario. You ended your episode by saying how hard this would be to believe but all of it is completely predictable and normal for those of us who are the slightest bit familiar with narcissistic personality disorder. If your therapist didn’t identify that as the core issue they are not qualified to lead you through this journey of healing. Please consider seeing a female therapist in the future as well. wishing the best for your recovery.

I love all of the detail that goes into each episode! They are all so thoughtful produced and great to bring awareness to others who could possibly suffer consequences from the crazies of the world. I've listened and started to re-listen when I need something reliably good to listen to!
Love this show!
