Borut Kržišnik - for project 7 Composers produced by radioCona, 2008

Borut Krzisnik is a Slovenian composer of contemporary music, based in Ljubljana. He was born in Zagreb in 1961. Born into a family of diplomats, he moved frequently during his childhood, both within former Yugoslavia and abroad, before finally settling in Ljubljana. Living among different nationalities and experiencing different mentalities helped form his understanding of diversity, something which certainly contributed to his broad approach to music. He played piano as a child, eventually switching to guitar and building up his unique way of composing. He graduated in Psychology from the University of Ljubljana, but soon afterwards devoted himself to music. He released five albums: SACRE DU TEMPS (Station Zuid, 2007), A LIFE IN SUITCASES (First Name Soundtracks, 2006), STORIES FROM MAGATREA (KUD France Preseren, US's release: Falcata-Galia Recordings, 1999), CURRENTS OF TIME (Recommended Records, London, 1991; re-release: Tone Casualties, Hollywood, 1998) and LA DOLCE VITA (FV, Ljubljana/Discordia, Willich, 1995). Borut Krzisnik's music has been used in a large number of theatre and dance performances, videos and other projects. Most recently, he joins Peter Greenaway in documentary "The Reitdiep Journeys", in closely related project "Grand Terp", the complex exibition in Groningen, Holland, in exhibition "Map to Paradise" in Ljubljana and in "Gold 92 bars in the Crashed Car", theatre performance in Frankfurt. In July 2000 his music appears in theatre peace "Nietzsche Contra Wagner" conceived and directed by American/Brasilian director Gerald Thomas. Gerald Thomas uses "Stories From Magatrea" as one of the cores for the play. Very important are his regular collaborations with Emil Hrvatin, a director with characteristic synthesis of revealing concept and bold interpretation.
