Building Consensus
From controversy to consensus, this podcast addresses fundamental building issues as well as building science nuance through discussions with industry experts. With each episode we seek to arrive at a common understanding, despite our dissimilar approaches or opposing views that reflect our unique experiences. It’s a pursuit of that mythical beast “best practice” through some good natured ribbing and spirited debate. Hopefully, we’ll be reaching common ground regardless of the different paths we tread.”

I'm way behind on podcasts so it's taken me a while to get to yours, but I binged them over the last few days and have to say you are doing a fabulous job! I'm picky about what I listen to but your content, pace, camaraderie, and made-for-radio voices all make it easy to listen to. I'm not on the construction side anymore, except for my own projects, but still consider myself a builder at heart, and many of your discussions translate easily to the design side as well. And it's always helpful for designers like me to better understand what makes good builders like you tick. My favorite episode was the plan set one (of course). I had heard a lot of what you said before, but you had some really useful additional information that I hadn't considered. I always ask builders for feedback on my drawings and to ask me if they have ANY questions whatsoever--and remind them that my phone and email are on every single sheet--but I rarely get any useful feedback so I'm left doing what I think is best. Your insights are very helpful. (For what it's worth, I mostly do Travis-style plan sets; around 20 sheets for a simple project and currently at around 100 sheets for a complicated, $3M project, but usually between 30 and 50 24"x36" sheets on most projects.) The most recent one that I just finished, about working for friends and family, was also relevant for me, as I do a lot of work for family, mostly for free, and also work for friends occasionally. But I also have the occasional client who becomes a friend during the design process, which is always nice. I also found the episode where you rated your own skills to be a lot of fun. I have also completed pretty much every task in building a home, but I would rank below both of you on most counts. (I'm still pretty good at hanging doors, running trim and building cabinets, though slower than I used to be.) Keep up the good work and I'll keep listening!

This may be my favorite podcast, becoming a builder is difficult and rewarding! Brandon and Travis both explain what you need and what to expect. They then offer so many pro tips and help for aspiring builders. This podcast is about community and setting expectations with yourself and your customers. I’ve learned so much! This is a must listen!!
