Welcome to Instructional Coaching with Ms. B, where we believe that every teacher deserves a coach, and every coach does too! I’m Chrissy Beltran, an elementary teacher who became a coach and I had to create my own coaching program that worked. Now I teach coaches how to design their coaching programs, build a school-wide action plan, and use differentiated strategies to support teachers.     216. The Current Role of the Department of Education and How That Could Change with Dr. Jen Newton

    The current role of the Department of Education and how that could change has been a hot topic in the news recently. In the Season 5 finale, Dr. Jen Newton of Teaching is Intellectual joins me to discuss this important topic. She explains the Department of Education's responsibilities, including distributing Title I money and funds for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We discuss the type of data it collects and why that data matters. She outlines the difference between federal and state roles in education. Dr. Newton highlights how potential changes could impact schools, students, and teachers. You’ll also find out what you can do to help make sure every child receives a high-quality public education.     215. The Three Parts of Your Spring Action Plan

    The spring semester will be here soon! So, how do you develop your spring action plan? In this episode, we’re discussing the three parts of your spring action plan. We talk about conducting a thorough needs assessment to gather information for the plan. This includes talking to administrators, hearing from teachers, visiting classrooms, and looking at data. Once you have those four pieces of information, you can turn them into focus areas and goals for your action plan. During the episode, you’ll hear how to use those goals to develop a plan for whole-school professional development (PD), differentiated support for PLC teams, and individual coaching work. You’ll also hear about aligning your goals with your teachers' needs and tiering teacher support. Plus, learn why it’s important to share your plan with your administration. But before we can create our new plan, we need to reflect on what we’ve accomplished so far this year.     213. Instructional Coaching Strategy Toolbox Success Stories: CST Coaches with Gina Armstrong

    Coaching teachers can be overwhelming, especially if we try to coach them all the same way! When we differentiate our work based on a teacher’s current needs, we make it much more meaningful! This past semester, I worked with several coaches to apply strategies from my Instructional Coaching Strategy Toolbox to their work. Today, I invited one of these coaches, Gina Armstrong, to talk about her experience using the strategies and how it affected her coaching! During the podcast, we talk about the tools Gina used and which ones she found most impactful. We also discuss leveraging low-level strategies into higher-impact coaching work.
