Living books are a vital and necessary part of a living education. They are full of ideas and personality that sparks the imagination, imparting interest in the subject, and building a love for learning. But how do you know if a book is a living book? How do you tell a living from a dead book? Jeannie Fulbright shares the way you can tell almost immediately if a book is a living book. She gives examples from living books and twaddle. By implementing the method Jeannie describes, you can easily identify a living book.

MOST POPULAR | Freedom in a Charlotte Mason Education (with Leah Boden) | REPLAY

As we prepare for season six of The Charlotte Mason Show, we are bringing back a few of our most popular episodes in a midseason mini-series!
In this podcast, Julie talks with Leah Boden about:
    - How she came to the simplicity of Charlotte Mason’s methods
    - Ways to face the challenges of comparing your homeschool to others
    - Feeling overwhelmed
    - The importance of patience in seeing the fruit of a Charlotte Mason education
“The next element is confidence. Parents should trust themselves more. Everything is not done by restless endeavor. The mere blessed fact of the parental relationship and of that authority which belongs to it, by right and by nature, acts upon the children as do sunshine and shower on a seed in good soil.” (Volume 3, School Education p. 29)
“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
    Guest biography
Leah is a long-time follower of Jesus, wife to Dave, and mom to four children. She and her husband are lead pastors of Mosaic Church and home educators who have been using the Charlotte Mason method for 12 years. She teaches at Modern Miss Mason and is the author of Moments on Mothering. Leah loves good books with a large cup of coffee, her daily dose of nature, travel, and being home with her family.

    Guest biography
Cindy West is passionate about homeschooling joyfully and loves to share strategies to tackle things that tend to steal joy in the day-to-day grind.
A 19-year veteran of homeschooling with a master’s degree in education, Cindy has graduated two children and is currently homeschooling an 8th grader. She’s a Charlotte Mason homeschooler at heart, but knows that any method or curriculum must be adjusted to work with the needs of individual families and even individual children. One of her specialties is helping parents figure out the best ways to tweak homeschooling to find great success.
She teaches monthly online Homeschool Masterclasses to parents and regularly shares creative and encouraging homeschooling solutions on her blog, Our Journey Westward. She has written several helpful books and curricula such as Homeschooling Gifted Kids and the popular NaturExplorers series. Megs DeHaan ,

Julie is fun and lively!

Thank you Julie for taking your time to share Charlotte Mason wisdom. I’ve listened to countless hours of your show and I keep going back for more! It has helped me to gain confidence and understand the practical ways of Miss Mason. I am SO grateful for you! 👏🏼

Kasey Werner ,

This podcast is such a gift!!

I just started doing some simple homeschool preschool this year with my 4 year old son. The last several months I’ve been taking a deep dive into Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, and have fallen in love with it!! I found this podcast by just typing in “Charlotte Mason podcast” on apple podcasts, and I’m so so glad I did! Because of what I’ve learned from Julie and her guests, I am now reading Charlotte Mason’s “Home Education” book, am reading really good living books with my kids, am focusing on the habit of obedience. I’ve also been encouraged to continue to spend much time outdoors and memorize scripture with my kiddos. I’m so thankful for a Christ-centered, practical, and deeply thought-provoking podcast. Thank you for all you do!

mistyfox1 ,

So grateful!

I’ve always dreamed of homeschooling my kiddos but life was always so busy. When Covid and distance learning came, we decided now was the time to switch. I am so grateful for Julie and A Gentle Feast! This show gives such wisdom and encouragement at just the right time! Julie is real and genuine and feeds this Mama’s soul during uncharted territories for me;)
