Before we are teachers we are individuals with dreams and aspirations that are constantly evolving. Copyroom Chronicles introduces a different perspective to the world of teaching by providing a digital platform that offers a safe space for educators to be and become their authentic selves. On Copyroom Chronicles we put the chalk, markers, pens and pencils down to talk, connect and learn from one another’s experiences by being revolutionary and real. We aim to share our truths about who we are in and out of the classroom and the impact it has on the work that we do.

I'm Not New to This... I'm True to it!

We sat down with Rachel, Founder, and CEO of Rachel Vicente Consulting. She is a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategist, coach, and trainer. We discuss identity and the important work of unlearning the ways we have been socialized and conditioned and relearning as a means of challenging white supremacy culture. As we journey through Rachel’s educational experience we learn the value of reflection, authenticity, and the power of consistently interrogating who am I and how is it that I want to show up in this space and in the work. Celebrating Culture

    Celebrating Culture

There's more to black history than MLK. In order to celebrate and pay homage to various cultures, histories and traditions we must do the research and plan ahead. Recognize various accomplishments, consult with multiple sources and encourage the exploration and sharing of all heritages and backgrounds. In affirming culture we must step out of our norms and diversify who we choose to celebrate. The links to articles referenced in this episode are shared below. Its time to change the narrative of undocumented immigrants in America. Today we sit with, DACA advocate and Dreamer, Astou Thiane. The purpose of DACA and the DREAM act is to protect eligible immigrant youth who came to the United States when they were children from deportation. We are grateful for Astou's willingness to share her story and for teaching us how we can all be better advocates for DACA and undocumented immigrants in this country.
