287: Ulmstead Traprock and Ellie Pell

WTF? Are we finally making that ice cream flavor you always wanted? No, but we get the haps on Umstead 100 and Traprock 17K and 50K which are exciting runs. And we get the latest from Ellie Pell too, who allegedly has a good shot at making the US Olympic Barrel throwing team.  And we get ready for our AS at Jack Bristol Lake Waramaug this weekend.

286 Hoppin Patreons Dealing with Natural Tattoo Disasters

The Crew spends some time abusing our Patreons, and discussing the erosion issues facing the finish line of the CUT112. We also recap the Hoppin Hodges and give a preview of Traprock 50K. But we are not going to talk about Ulmstead 100, or tattoo conventions so don't even ask!

285 HOKA Reach Around Technology Explained

285 HOKA Reach Around Technology Explained

Antonio Tovar is a Field Experience Representative for HOKA and he joined Connecticut's #1 Running Instagram poster and coincidental HOKA super fan Runner Rob @Robsroadtoultra Amatruda, Phred and AFB as we tear a wide gaping hole in everything you ever thought about running shoes.  Tovar is a wealth of shoe knowledge and he is not afraid to talk shit either!  We answer all the technology questions, and ask the question "is Altra, HOKA's little bitch after introducing a non zero drop shoe?" We rage against the NIKE machine and ultimately trick Tovar into disclosing company secrets, which will be rebranded shortly into the JOKA ONE ONE DOOKIE (112), complete with BYRAM sole, short term memory foam, reach around technology, and the happy ending cushioning. Did Cultra finally sell out, sure, but its so worth it!

284: DNF Rising From the Ashes- Meet the Authors

DNF: Rising From the Ashes is a compilation of stories by runners, for runners, about the heartbreak and redemption of a "Did Not Finish" race result. In a collection of heartfelt stories, these endurance athletes share their experiences, feelings, and lessons learned through failure.
We have a chance to meet 12 of the contributing authors who each bring their tales of some of the best stories of success, failure, blood, vomit, more, told by Race Directors, common folk, and record holders. Hear the tales from 6 Day races, Vol State, HOTS, Tesla Hertz, Lake Waramaug, 3 Days at the Fair, D3 and more! Plus we engage in a game of 5 questions, but there is only one answer!
Featuring Authors include: Mastermind Amy Mower, Frederick Murolo, Jan Walker, Joey Lichter, Shamus Babcock, John Calabrese, Bob Hearn, Stefanie Bernosky, Bill Schultz, Vinny Capp, Jason Reathaford and AFB.

282 Coree Woltering on The Move

282 Coree Woltering on The Move

Coree Woltering is a professional trail runner, known for his ultra running Speedo, his Eco Challenge effort and many other things related to running including putting up the supported fastest known time (FKT) of 21 days, 13 hours, and 35 minutes on Wisconsin’s 1,147-mile Ice Age Trail in 2020. We talk about the expectations that others have occasionally put on Coree as an openly gay African American male.
On his way to Maine (watch them gators), Coree met up with his friend Bessic (from the podcast) and they went for a run on Sleeping Giant. We also get a vivid insider’s view of what it’s like to race 800 meters on the track. Then we talk about everything else including the pressure of sponsorship, Western States WSER and the joy of sobriety.
We also get a commitment for a revisit after he runs Cruel Jewel with Bessic. The magic 8 ball makes a dire prediction.

Fun and funny podcast about trail running for everybody

Always enjoy listening to this podcast to hear about trail running as it takes everybody’s perspective into account. Always with a fun and funny approach as we get stories from the front, middle, and back of the pack.

Best on the Beast Coast

The Cultra Crew (Art, Fred, Becky, and Jimmy) keep the conversation light and hilarious while discussing beast coast trail running and races. Fred provides valuable insights based on his vast ultra-running experience, Jimmy is quick-witted and can riff on absolutely anything, Becky is the heart of the podcast, and Art….well, Art really wants to tell you about the time he biked the Erie Canal. Just kidding, Art is the show’s leader and also brings a lot of northeast trail running experience to the pod.
I’ve met them all in person and can tell you they are genuinely great people.
