Dancing with Shadows | Legacy

Ballet demands absolute sacrifice. Dancers push the limits of the human mind and body in the relentless pursuit of perfection. For journalist Nicky Anderson, a childhood love for ballet has become a lifelong fascination, a fascination that has always drawn her back to one place: the New York City Ballet. Home to some of the greatest works of the modern age, its legacy was shaped by the genius of its founder, the so-called father of American ballet, George Balanchine. But behind the beauty lies a more complicated truth. Across its 76-year history, the New York City Ballet has faced allegations of power misuse, a major lawsuit, and an investigation into sexual harassment and physical and verbal abuse by a former Ballet Master-in-Chief. Yet, the real story isn’t in the headlines. It’s in the voices of those who were there, the dancers who lived it. You see, this isn’t just a story about ballet. It’s about devotion, ambition, and the cost of surrendering yourself entirely to something. It’s about the people who graced that famous stage - and what became of them. Fantastic narrative from Sam

I’m usually a fan of the light and funnier football ramble from Stake. However this is a very interesting more serious take on football history that’s very enjoyable
Objectively bad.

On top of having to hear “Sam Diss” layer his blasé quiet room voice; we get a series that does nothing but provide an auditory version of doom scrolling. Diss actively notes that this podcast series did not go as planned and instead, started giving a voice to what we can duly find on Twitter and Facebook. Without a solution, without taking initiative to make a change for the positive after infiltrating abusive groups. Quite literally, spreading the proverbial disease he’s so deadpan set on promoting in order to heal his childhood. Not everyone should have a podcast, let alone a voice.
Worth a listen

Well put together with an engrossing story
So relevant and insightful - necessary listening

This is a fantastic series. Such poignant timing amid global and regional concerns surrounding immigration and the mentality that another group is always looking to replace them. The connection between this train of thought and the history of football violence is something I’ve never linked together, but now that I hear it, it makes so much sense. The host Sam conveys intelligence and realism so well and the podcast highly engaging with in person interviews mixed with his insightful narration. Can’t wait for next week. Keep it up!
