    The Master of Synthesizer Design : Axel Hartmann : From Inspiration to Iconic !  Hosted by Vin Curigliano of AAVIM Technology, I am joined by guest co-host Pete Brown of Microsoft, and special guest Axel Hartmann who has been the go to designer for some of the most iconic synthesizers of the last 35 years, and continues to be one of the leading designers in the field. Chances are, you have seen or played one of his designs. We discuss Axel's history in music and technology, what lead him to follow the path to Industrial Design, and what motivated and inspired him to focus his attention and creativity, primarily in the area of musical instruments. Starting with his early career at Waldorf that was initially in graphic design but expanded into the area of industrial design and the eventual design and development of the iconic Waldorf Wave synthesizer, as well as many other well-known and much-loved synthesizer designs for numerous other manufacturers. We then cover a large number of his better-known designs, and get first-hand insights and behind the scenes details of what is actually involved in bringing these instruments to market. Throughout, we dive into Axel's design philosophy and how he works in collaboration with the clients to bring the designs to life and to market. We navigate the highs, lows, hits, and misses over his career, and much, much more, with some great stories and laughs along the way. We discuss Peters' early history with music and technology , and how that lead a path to his initial explorations in synth programming and sound design , his continuing journey to working in Music Tech journalism , further adventures in sound design and programming , collaborating with companies like Kawai, Waldorf, Nord, and his eventual co-founding of his first company, Wizoo. Hosted by Vin Curigliano of AAVIM Technology, I am joined by guest co-host Pete Brown of Microsoft and special guest Jules Storer who is the Founder and Lead Developer of Tracktion, now known as Tracktion Waveform, and also the developer of the JUCE programming framework. We discuss Jules' early history with music, computers and coding, and how that lead a path to his development of Tracktion. We cover the history from Tracktions early days under the Mackie banner, the splitting and development of JUCE as a separate programming framework, the shelving of the application and eventual re-acquisition and independent relaunch. We cover ongoing development of the application across multiple platforms, including the splitting and licensing of the audio engine, discuss the Tracktion Audio Engine's unique approach to multiprocessing / multithreading routines, weigh up the pro's and cons of hybrid playback engines, and dive into the complexity of threading to larger core and hybrid CPU architectures, etc. We get into the finer detail of the JUCE framework, and detail just how widely used and influential the framework has become for audio application and plugin developers.     MIDI 2.0 : 40 Years in the Making ! Hosted by Vin Curigliano of AAVIM Technology , I am joined by guest co-host Pete Brown of Microsoft and also special guests, Andrew Mee , who is a MIDI 2.0 consultant to Yamaha, and Gary Daniels of Microsoft.  Andrew is the author of open source libraries, and also tools for certification for MIDI 2.0, as well as being Chair for the Developer Support Working Group for the MIDI Association. Gary is an Engineer on the Microsoft Audio Team, and is the architect of Windows MIDI Services, and primary developer for the Service, Driver and other cross-process communication, and the overall plugin architecture. Pete Brown is also pulling double duties on this show as a special guest for his extended role over and above his regular work on the Window Developer Platform Team. Pete is the creator of the Windows MIDI Services Project, client API, virtual MIDI, and applications, as well as being the Chair of the MIDI Associated Executive Board. We cover the History of MIDI 1.0 since its inception in 1983 , discuss the numerous extensions over the last 4 decades, and the limitations that are being addressed with MIDI 2.0. We give a detailed overview of MIDI 2.0, and clarify some confusing information in regards to the two "sides" of MIDI 2.0 ( MIDI CI and UMP ), cover backwards compatibility and what problems MIDI 2.0 will resolve for musical, audio and creative application. We discuss the available tools and applications available for cross platform developers ,and how the MIDI Association works in collaboration OS companies, audio, musical instrument and DAW developers to implement the new protocol. We take a deep dive under the bonnet of the development of MIDI 2.0 on the Windows platform, discuss future plans with Network MIDI 2.0, and much, much more.
