The Place of Beauties (Ta-Set-Neferu). In the reigns of Ramesses I and Sety I (c.1304—1292 BCE), the Valley of the Queens finally earned its moniker. Having been a burial ground for royal children and courtiers, the wadi south of Deir el-Medina now began to host ruling women. In the days of Sety I, the Queen Mother Sitra and the Queen Tuya both received new tomb constructions in this site. Faced with an uprising, Ra marshalled his supporters and sent forth an enforcer. Dominic knows his stuff—he has actually translated hieroglyphics!—and I appreciate his emphasis on everyday life and the “little guy.” The unintentional humor comes from his swooning over all the great queens, who he inevitably falls in love with the more he discusses them. The intentional humor ain’t bad either. Really brings Egypt to life!

This is an amazing podcast! I have learned more about the history of ancient Egypt than in any survey course or book that I might have taken. Much more than names, dates and highlights, Dominic offers a comprehensive insight into all things Egyptian, including history, literature, culture and tie ins with the history of surrounding territories. Excellently produced and well-presented, it is easy to follow, lean and make sense of one of the longest-lasting civilizations.

This is a great podcast. However he does simp for every Egyptian woman mentioned. He also loves interpreting Egyptian history to include homosexuals and transgenders with dubious evidence. And in his defense he admits the evidence is not that great. If you can get past that this is a great podcast to learn about ancient Egypt
