TONIGHT - we\'ll talk with Dr. Carolyn Dean about Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is an essential nutrient, widely recognized for its antioxidant properties. These properties arise from its potent redox potential due to its capacity to donate electrons to oxidized molecules. Even in small quantities vitamin C can protect critical molecules in the body such as proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) from damage by reactive oxygen species, which are generated during normal metabolism, by active immune cells, and through exposure to toxins and pollutants (e.g., certain chemotherapy drugs and cigarette smoke). The vitamin also plays a critical role as a cofactor – a molecule that assists enzymes in chemical reactions. This dual nature of vitamin C means that it is instrumental in multiple physiological processes, including those involved in the biosynthesis of collagen, carnitine, and catecholamines. As such, vitamin C participates in immune function, wound healing, fatty acid metabolism, neurotransmitter production, and blood vessel formation, as well as other key processes and pathways.

Magnesium and minerals plug us in - literally! Not only do minerals provide the necessary building blocks for the structure and function of the body, they are also required for the electrical conductivity that occurs between all cells. The electrical or energetic message that minerals send is created from very small amounts of minerals, but it results in a huge impact. The nervous system uses electrical energy to transmit messages (nerve impulses) from one cell to another. The muscles are similarly activated to create all movement – large and small.

Misleading Information

The 2 hour show on 10/6/14 has info that is not exactly accurate. Issue #1: I haven't worked in a hospital for many yrs. but do know they have antibacterial dispensers everywhere now and seriously doubt any staff person would walk into a patient's room using a cellphone. Issue #2: Comparing a green juice drink to taking Relyte is like saying it's better to take a pill. Real food has far more nutrients than a bottle of Relyte. Eating good quality plant-based foods will provide nutrients that the cells can absorb and don't have to be picometer sized to be absorbed. Scientific studies need to be provided in all these bottled products, not just an opinion. How can anyone say their product is the only one that is absorbed by cells when there is no scientific proof? Issue #3: There is a lot of research on alkalinity and acidity. Dr. Dean is what is called "an armchair researcher" which means she gets her information from surfing the Internet. She refers to James Sloane on Youtube and doesn't present any further knowledge about alkalinity and acidity. Does she know how legitimate his information is? Issue #4: To say you can't be vegetarian seems to indicate Dr. Dean has never really done much research into information regarding meat, poultry, fish and dairy that are major causes of poor health in this country. She is no better than the medical profession that she is condemning. People are relying on her to solve their medical issues with her products. If you took all of them it would cost $250/month. Eating good wholesome plant-based foods and drinking green juices won't cost that much. Issue # 4: A cup of yogurt has approximatly 200 mg. of calcium. How in the world could that deplete someone of their magnesium unless that's all they were eating! There are reliable doctors doing research and helping people with their medical issues with plant-based foods, such as Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Joel Fuhrman and many many more.
