E21: Community Servant - John Burrows

The son of John Henry and Alice Mae (Donnell) Burrows, John Burrows was born April 10, 1928, in Dallas, Texas. John graduated from Claremore High School in 1945, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. After his discharge he continued his education at Oklahoma State University where he graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Business Administration. On June 29, 1952, John married Loretta Jean Hill at the First Baptist Church in Claremore. He was the owner of Burrows & Burrows Insurance Agency in Claremore which he began in 1957 after employment with Amerada and Gulf Oil companies. At one point, three generations were working together at the agency with the addition of John’s son Dave along with granddaughter Kory Burrows Coots. A community leader at heart, John served on the RSU Foundation, was President of the Claremore Chamber of Commerce, the JM Davis Commission and the Rotary Club just to name a few. John passed away on December 13, 2014.
