    Ep. 261 - The Umbrella Academy: The Apocalypse Suite (w/ Hunter Saling)

    On the newest episode of Comics and Chronic the guys are joined by guest Hunter Saling. Hunter Saling is an actor and comedian, most notably one-third of sketch group Business Casual. You can see him next in the trio’s new show, “COWBOYS” with dates in January throughout California. Hunter has been reading comics for as long as he can remember and plans to continue reading them until he can’t remember anything. Tonight they discuss Umbrella Academy (the comic). The Umbrella Academy is an American comic book series created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá. It follows a dysfunctional family of adopted superherosiblings with bizarre powers attempting both to save the world and find their place within it. Published intermittently by Dark Horse Comics, the comic is released in six to seven issue limited series, typically lasting six issues. Since 2007, three volumes have been published, as have two spin-offs. The fourth volume of the main series is currently in development. Do the guys like this more than the TV series?     Ep. 260 - The Mummy

    On the newest episode of Comics and Chronic the guys discuss The Mummy. The Mummy is a 1999 American action-adventure film written and directed by Stephen Sommers, starring Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and Arnold Vosloo in the title role as the reanimated mummy. It is a remake of the 1932 film of the same name. The film follows adventurer and treasure hunter Rick O'Connell as he travels to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead, with librarian Evelyn Carnahan and her older brother Jonathan, where they accidentally awaken Imhotep, a cursed high priest with supernatural powers. The guys also discuss how Anthony will save us from AI. They talk about how hot the cast is and all of the cast’s illustrious careers. Was Imhotep antisemitic? What were the conditions like on set?     This week on Comics and Chronic we discuss Velvet by Ed Brubaker & art by Steve Epting published by Image Comics.  “From the best-selling creators of CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER comes VELVET, a slick and sexy new take on the cold war spy genre. Mike Tyson & Jake Paul were used a distraction from the under water aliens/congress hearing. Operation Sleepy Baby is uncovered. This book has hard James Bond vibes with a strong female lead.  A lot of real life references to historical espionage history. Becky 2: The Beckoning is coming to theaters near you! Once you start reading this book you won’t be able to put it down. We come up with a new sound effect for the sound board specifically made for Cody’s thinking. This is Brubaker at his best. Everyone agrees this is one of the best comics we’ve read. Why does Ed Brubaker end a lot of his stories with someone by the beach?  Will we delve deep into the origins of the Blue Waffle STD?     This week we discuss The Private Eye by Brian K. Vaughan, art by Marcos Martin, & colored by Munsta Vicente.  “Years after the digital cloud "bursts" and exposes all of our worst secrets, THE PRIVATE EYE is set in an inevitable future where everyone has a secret identity. Following an unlicensed P.I. who is thrust into the most important case of his life, this sci-fi mystery explores the nature of privacy with frightening prescience.”   But first the boys talk US Politics, election, and who we voted for.  The darkest secret of all is your identity.  This book is a 10 issue comic that originally was digital only but is now printed by Image Comics.  Anthony lists his favorite Batgirls.  In this future there is no internet, libraries are valued, and the overall world building in this comic is incredible.  Can we prevent Betty Yayo 2069 from coming online?  Cody believes they’ll let us smoke weed in concentration camps.  The book has 1984 vibes . Brian K. Vaughan doesn’t have the best luck when his comics become TV shows.  The mystery of Jake being sick begins in this episode.  Tune in this week for more shenanigans!
