President Kennedy finds himself grappling with the implications of a scientific experiment that has torn open a rift between 1962 and 2018 at Brookhaven Lab. The chapter begins with Kennedy confronting Dr. Krauss, who challenges the Many Worlds Theory proposed by Hugh Everett. Krauss insists that Everett’s theory is speculative and unproven, warning Kennedy against trusting it. However, Kennedy, displaying keen insight, points out that even if the Earth seems intact in 2018, it doesn’t guarantee that this reality is a continuation of his 1962 world. He feels an urgency to return to Washington, as nuclear war looms in his own timeline, and he plans to consult Everett, whom he trusts to help navigate this dangerous situation.

After returning to 1962, Kennedy discusses the latest developments with his brother Bobby. They review a potential diplomatic breakthrough in the Cuban Missile Crisis but are interrupted by Kennedy’s lingering doubts about the science behind the rift. Krauss’s dismissal of Everett’s theory has unsettled him, but Bobby reassures him, pointing out that Everett’s unconventional thinking might be exactly what is needed to address such an extraordinary problem.

As the situation escalates, Kennedy contacts Everett, informing him of the antimatter experiment and the ominous rift. Everett acknowledges the gravity of the situation, explaining that such experiments push the boundaries of science and carry unforeseeable risks. The two resolve to confront the crisis together once Kennedy resolves the immediate threat of nuclear war.

Meanwhile, back at Brookhaven in 2018, Krauss and his team frantically work to understand the nature of the rift. As they analyze it, the rift grows larger and more dangerous, seemingly feeding off the energy from their experiments. Krauss realizes the situation is spiraling out of control. The rift, now sentient and malevolent, taunts them, warning that it will consume not just their reality but others as well. As the rift spreads, the team faces the terrifying possibility that they are no longer observers but prisoners of a catastrophic event of their own making.
