EP139 50th Anniversary Reflections

Hearts & Stripes

Welcome to Season 6 of the Hearts & Stripes podcast with encouragement from host, Bree Carroll.  Today Bree is reflecting on three big takeaways from her in-laws 50th wedding anniversary and vow renewal.  A huge thank you to Edna & Stanley Carroll for your example and support. Happy 50th! Here are our highlights from this episode:

  1. Focus on Family - Everything blooms from a focus on marriage and family. Making sacrificial decisions to put the family in a better position was a big part of what made them successful. This takes selflessness and a big picture perspective as opposed to a short term gain.
  2. Focus on Faith - The Carrolls don’t just say what they believe but also model it. They practice their beliefs and follow the order that the Bible outlines for families.  It takes submission, surrender, trust, and intentionality.
  3. Focus on Selflessness - I love watching my inlaws love one another. They model showing up for one another when it matters most. This looks like taking vows seriously, especially the “for better or for worst” portion. This is something that isn’t always easy but is necessarily for a sustainable relationship.
