The Natural Curiosity Project

I photograph, record, and write about the natural world. I see, I listen, I write. I fundamentally believe that curiosity can save the world—so I publish stories to make people curious. Ultimately, curiosity leads to discovery, discovery leads to knowledge, knowledge leads to insight, and insight leads to understanding. Please enjoy!

The Best Storyteller I’ve Ever Been Around

I had the pleasure of hearing Dr Shepard speak twice, and both times I was left in awe. I wondered how one person could seemingly live so many lives & know so much about a wide variety of topics. He said it was his curiosity, he asked questions and was sincere. When I saw this podcast on LinkedIn I went to iTunes and am hooked. Thank you Dr Shepard for sharing your curiosity with all of us!
Growing my curiosity

Curiosity is one of those funny things that can sometimes get hungrier after it is fed, and the Natural Curiosity Project has a way of simultaneously satisfying my curiosity and driving my desire to keep learning. What a delightful paradox! I love the varied topics and formats of each episode, always with Steve’s unique blend of playful insight and adventure at the helm. The radio-ready production quality and voice talent don’t hurt, either! This podcast is an absolute gem, with something here for everyone. Thanks for making such a compulsively listenable and informative show, Steve!
Always Curious

Enjoy the topics that I probably never would have been thinking about. Even the mention of Wichita, KS in the current one. I call it home.
An oasis.

I found this podcast by searching, just for fun, for the name of the author Loren Eiseley. I didn’t expect much as Dr. Eiseley is a little known (though hugely appreciated by those who do know him) literary naturalist. Voila! A whole episode about Dr. Eiseley. I appreciate podcasts on all manner of subjects, but while they keep me interested, they rarely leave me refreshed. This one does refresh me, because it refocuses me on nature, the source of all connection and energy. Thank you, Steve!
Bite sized learning

I strive to learn something new every day and this podcast is a great way to make that happen. With topics ranging all across the spectrum from cryptocurrency to global warming and beyond, the Natural Curiosity Project takes complex concepts and presents them in easy to digest, bite sized servings. Great podcast with interesting and fresh content.

Like browsing an encyclopedia

The topics run from listening to thousands of geese to discussing quantum theory to whatever the heck a block chain is, Dr Shepard calmly and simply walks us through to a basic understanding and maybe finding its inner beauty. In any case, it is a step away from an increasingly hectic and confusing world to stop and conceptually smell the flowers and maybe learn some interesting tidbits of knowledge about the world around us.
Great variety of topics
