Brian Gaines is a designer, writer, and the Visiting Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Professional Writing at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where he teaches a variety of Media and Professional and technical Writing courses, including Writing and Digital Media. Prior to coming to Virginia Tech, Brian graduated from Clemson University’s interdisciplinary Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design (RCID) PhD program where he was the last graduate student of the “Bad Boy of Rhetoric,” Victor Vitanza. His research interests reside at the nexus of visual rhetoric, surveillance studies, détournement, and hauntology.
