Where Should We Begin? with Esther Perel

I’ve been listening for a few years now. It is fascinating to be a fly on the wall in these sessions. Also interesting to see what problems other couples have and recognize common relationship tropes and patterns. It’s helped me be more cognizant of things in my own relationships both platonic and romantic.

I’ve loved and listened to this podcast since it began. That said, the amount and frequency of ads that run in the show since it was acquired by Vox has become so intrusive that it makes the show difficult to listen to and take seriously. I understand the revenue considerations of advertising / where the industry is now, but the fact that there is a preroll, at least 2 midrolls *and* postrolls for episodes that are barely 30 minutes long is crazy and feels so intrusive. I used to love the show and am disappointed that it now just feels like an iHeart cash grab.

As a therapist I thank you Esther. Sometimes when I think about my clients, I feel like I may be a little more directive at times or more blunt than I'd like to be but I feel that it's essential as therapists that we sound the alarm when there are red flags that the client may be ignoring or not seeing altogether like the lady in Esther Says Run episode. I listen to Esther all the time but I have not heard her be this blunt in her past sessions. Let me just say how much I appreciated her frankness with this client and how much I feel validated for doing the exact same thing for some clients sometimes. Thank you Esther!

Just listened to this episode .. perhaps I should sit with it some more before I do a review ☺️. But I must say this is one of the top 5 best sessions I’ve had the privilege to sit in on .. and I have numerous episodes that I love and learn so much from. In This episode.. the bias was necessary and needed..and Esther in her expertise,mother-ness , woman-ness and human-ness … navigated and addressed the issues with so much care, compassion and no nonsensical without shaming and blaming . Impeccable . Thanks for sharing ❤️☺️
