- Education
This project explores how acting with conscious empathy may be our best tool for addressing inequity in the healthcare setting and beyond. We confront the disparate treatment of people of color, those battling substance abuse, mental health concerns, homelessness, poverty, and trauma, and discuss how by promoting self-awareness and honest dialogue, we may be able to improve outcomes and experience, one patient, at a time. The words in these episodes rely on a foundation of bioethics, historical research, and first-hand experience in the field.

Ep1 Race and Pain Treatment
The inaugural episode of Ethics and Empathy will discuss the issue of race and pain treatment of Black individuals in the hospital setting. It has been long documented that Black patients have faced unequal and inadequate treatment of pain. Through the use of a historical text, the white perspective on Black individuals is identified. A study of how increased cognitive load in providers exposes the hard truth of racial bias. And a simple perspective tool is offered as a way to mitigate the unjust treatment of Black individuals receiving pain treatment in the hospital.
