    Best of the Best (1989)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris determine who is the Best of the Best as the 80s martial arts classic turns 35. Starring Eric Roberts, James Earl Jones, and real-life competitive martial artist Phillip Rhee, Best of the Best is loosely based on Rhee's time in the 1980 Asia Games Tae Kwan Do championship as a member of Team USA vs South Korea.  In the movie, Rhee is Tommy Lee, who is joined by Roberts' Alex Grady, Chris Penn's Travis Brickley, John Dye's Virgil Keller, and David Agresta's Sonny Grasso as the US team traveling to South Korea to battle Team Korea, led by arguably the greatest fighter in the world, Dae Han (Simon Rhee), who also just happened to kill Tommy's brother in a prior tournament.  Zach and Chris talk about the many training montages and how the movie is more Rocky than Bloodsport, brick breaking, the bar brawl with Kane Hodder, Sonny and Virgil's lack of interpersonal drama to overcome, and more. Next week, we're entering the arena and discussing Gladiator as Gladiator II hits theaters. We want to hear your comments and feedback. Send them all to contact@everythingaction.com.  Also, let us know your suggestions for movies for us to discuss. Big Hero 6 (2014)

This week for the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head to San Fransokyo and discuss Big Hero 6, which came out 10 years ago this week. The first (and so far only) Marvel Comics movie from Disney Animation Studio, Big Hero 6 is very loosely based on a comic of the same name and follows teenage science genius Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) as he investigates his brother Tadashi's (Daniel Henney) death in a mysterious fire and the theft of his miraculous "microbot" technology that is in the hands of a supervillain in a yokai mask.  Hiro is aided in his quest for justice (and revenge) by Baymax (Scott Adsit), Tadashi's adorable robotic creation designed to be a healthcare provider, and Tadashi's college friends, who all create armor and gadgets based on their science projects.  Zach and Chris discuss the differences between the comic and the movie, the dark side of Baymax, Hiro's similarities to Spider-Man, how *spoiler* Professor Callaghan (James Cromwell) quickly decides to start trying to murder his former students, and more. You can watch Big Hero 6 on Disney+.  Next week, we see who is truly the Best of the Best as we discuss the martial arts classic for its 35th anniversary. We want to hear your comments and feedback. NOV 1 · VIDEO

    Saw (2004)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris want to play a game and discuss 2004's Saw, which just celebrated its 20th anniversary. Kicking off a massive franchise, Saw started simple with Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) and Adam (Leigh Whannell) finding themselves chained to the pipes of a dingy bathroom and realizing they are the latest victims of the Jigsaw Killer (Tobin Bell), who has been capturing people and putting them into gruesome challenges, almost none of whom survive.  Danny Glover is Detective Tapp, obsessed with finding and capturing Jigsaw.  Zach and Chris discuss how every building in the Saw universe is rundown and grimy, if Adam should have been placed in a more eyeball-focused trap, how the bathroom trap feels more like an escape room than the later Jigsaw traps, how weird it is every time someone calls Cary Elwes "Larry" and more. You can watch Saw on Max. Next week, we're heading to San Fransokyo to discuss Big Hero 6, celebrating its 10th anniversary. We want to hear your comments and feedback. The Terminator (1984)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris use Time Displacement Equipment to jump back to 1984 and celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Terminator. In the movie that turned James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger into household names, Arnold stars as the villainous Terminator, a killer cyborg sent back in time to kill the mother of the future leader of the human resistance in a war between humanity and machines.  The Resistance sends a soldier named Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) to protect Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), and a cat-and-mouse battle across Los Angeles ensues.  Zach and Chris talk about how disgusting Kyle's homeless pants must be, the sexy piano version of The Terminator theme, what happened to Sarah's pet iguana, The Terminator driving a station wagon for the first part of the movie, and more.   You can rent/buy The Terminator on services like Amazon [https://amzn.to/3AfJbwk] or Apple TV. New Nightmare (1994)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris get meta to talk about Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which celebrated its 30th anniversary. Existing in the "real world," Heather Langenkamp plays herself, an actress in Los Angeles who has terrible nightmares about a darker and more sinister version of Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund).  Wes Craven is writing a new movie in the series, but it seems like his script is becoming a reality, and Freddy is threatening Heather and her son Dylan (Miko Hughes) to try and enter the real world.  The guys discuss why Wes doesn't tell anyone something horrible will happen to them since he has prophetic dreams, Freddy's new look, the constant earthquakes, the crazy ending Freddy Temple, and more. You can rent New Nightmare on services like Apple TV+.  Next week, we're celebrating the 40th anniversary of one of our all-time favorite movies, The Terminator. Sleepy Hollow (1999)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris try not to lose their heads while discussing the 1999 Tim Burton movie Sleepy Hollow.  Loosely based on the classic Washington Irving short story, Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, a police constable from New York City in 1799 who is dispatched to the small town of Sleepy Hollow, where a series of bizarre murders have taken place.  Trying to use new scientific methods to solve the crime, Ichabod slowly realizes that there is something supernatural occurring and has to turn to less logical methods to stop the killings. Zach and Chris discuss the fantastic gothic atmosphere, Christopher Walken's insane cameo, the homages to classic Hammer horror movies, the convoluted conspiracy plot, and more. You can watch Sleepy Hollow on Paramount+ or AMC+.  Next week, we're getting meta and discussing Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Everything Action Commentary: China O'Brien (1990)

For a special bonus commentary, Zach and Chris are joined by special guests Addam and Justin to celebrate Chris' birthday and watch the 1990 Cynthia Rothrock "classic," China O'Brien.  Directed by Robert Clouse, the director who brought us both Enter the Dragon and Gymkata, Rothrock stars as a police officer and martial arts instructor, China O'Brien.  After an accidental shooting, O'Brien leaves the big city and returns home to Beaver Creek, UT, where she finds her father (David Blackwell) battling corruption from an evil businessman, Sommers (Steven Kerby).  After her father is killed, China decides to run for sheriff and get justice, with the help of local high school teacher Matt (Richard Norton) and a motorcycle-riding drifter, Dakota (Keith Cooke).  While watching the movie, the guys wonder why car bombs are the bad guys to move, how China can organize an entire parade to help her campaign, the literal teens that China deputizes for the police force, and more. It's a bit tricky to find China O'Brien to watch but there is a Vinegar Syndrome release that you can check out [https://amzn.to/3BE10FL]  We want to hear your comments and feedback. The Blob (1988)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris kick off the spooky season with 1988's The Blob, which has a new limited edition 4K steelbook release [https://amzn.to/3TVjuYq]. A remake of the 1958 Steve McQueen starring classic, the 1988 The Blob was directed by Chuck Russell and stars Kevin Dillon and Shawnee Smith.  When a satellite carrying a biological experiment gone wrong crashes near the small town of Arborville, CA, the residents start to be devoured by the titular monster, which gets bigger with each victim it absorbs.  Bad boy biker Brian (Dillon) and cheerleader Meg (Shawnee Smith) get thrown together by the Blob's rampage and have to survive both the monster and the government agents who have arrived to quarantine and contain the creature, with the entire town considered expendable.  The guys talk about Kevin Dillon's "death-defying" motorcycle jump, the gruesome practical effects, the early death of a character that seems like a main character, and more. You can watch The Blob on Paramount+ or Peacock.  Next week, we're discussing Tim Burton's homage to Hammer Horror with Sleepy Hollow, which is getting a 25th anniversary 4K on October 8th.
