Excavate | Uncovering Our Place in God's Story
Centuries of patriarchy have resulted in the presence of women in the Bible being suppressed and ignored. This podcast explores where women have always been evident in scripture so that things which have been long-buried may be newly discovered. We believe that God has always valued His daughters and our invitation is to celebrate where we are already seen and loved. We need not insert anything new, for we are already there.

What Do I Know Her From? | Leah + Rachel

What Do I Know Her From? | Leah + Rachel

We are very excited to start a new series today for the month of June called “What do I know her from?” We’ll be doing weekly episodes that each dig deeper into the back story of an important woman in scripture that you may have vaguely heard of but don’t know her full story. Today we’re starting with sisters Leah and Rachel. They are known for their rivalry, but that conflict arose from generation patterns of deceit and competition that got passed onto them. Their story is powerful and interesting, and is also a window into the things that women inherit and what it can look like for us to break generational patterns.

    Read along with us:

    Gen. 29

    Gen. 30:1-22

    Gen. 49:18

    Gen. 48:7

    1 Sam. 2:10

    Jer. 31:15

    Ruth 4:11

Series Trailer | What Do I Know Her From?

We are excited to announce a special series for the month of June called “What Do I Know Her From”? Each week we’ll be digging into the story of a woman in scripture that you may have vaguely heard of, or perhaps have heard her name a lot, but have never actually dug into her full story. For the next 4 weeks we’ll uncover the back stories of women that made big contributions to the history of God’s people and give them the flowers they deserve. We’ll be learning about Rahab, sisters Rachel and Leah, Huldah, and Priscilla. Each of these women have compelling and complex stories, some of which we’ve talked about in previous episodes but are all worth revisiting or discovering for the first time.

Make sure to subscribe to the podcast if you haven’t already so you get notifications for new episodes, follow us on Instagram or Facebook, and please share the episodes with people in your circle so we can all uncover our place in God’s story together.

    Who Has Bewitched You?

    Who Has Bewitched You?

Today we’re synthesizing what we’ve been talking about in our last few episodes on the Babylonian exile and the rise of religious imagery and spirituality in pop culture, by discussing New Age spirituality. Things like astrology, manifesting, witchcraft and spells have become increasingly mainstream in the US, particularly among women. These type of practices are not new so we’ll be looking at some passages from the prophets that discuss these forms of spirituality and what drives them. We believe women are by nature highly spiritual, so stewarding our sensitivity to the spiritual realm is more important than ever.

Tortured Poets, Hot Takes, and Divesting from the Culture Wars

Tortured Poets, Hot Takes, and Divesting from the Culture Wars

It’s an election year, which means culture wars are especially heightened. Women are often the target or the most impacted by reactionary rhetoric. Including most recently Taylor Swift with her new album release, so we’ll talk about what’s eliciting the controversy and some of our thoughts on interpreting The Tortured Poets Department. In a time when everything solicits a reaction, what does it look like to walk as faithful women?

    A Star is Born

    A Star is Born

Today we’re continuing to dig into our themes from our last episode about what the period of the exiles in Babylon can teach us about breaking generational patterns and how they can speak to Gen Z and all of us. Last time we talked about the fiery furnace, today we’ll discuss a few more aspects of the time in Babylon, jump to Esther a generation later, and look at the lasting legacy that bore fruit in the time of Christ and beyond. These generations remind us that even in the midst of great darkness and societal collapse, God can be working in ways we could never imagine. So let’s allow their story to expand our imaginations!

    Read along with us:
    Dan. 2:10-19
    Esther 4:13-17
    Esther 9:1-2
    Matt. 2:1-12

What the Church Can Learn from the Babylonian Exile

What the Church Can Learn from the Babylonian Exile

It’s a been a minute since we’ve had an episode that was solely scripture study, so today we want to dig into some specific passages about the generation in the Old Testament that lived through the Babylonian exile. They have a lot to teach the Church and Gen Z about what it looks like to inherit a society and a Church in ruin, and how to invite the Lord to join you to give you a future and a hope. Today we’re looking at the young exiles in the book of Daniel, and in our next episode we’ll be looking at Esther and her legacy among the diaspora. God did some amazing things in just two generations, so let’s dig in.

    Read along with us:
    Jeremiah‬ ‭32‬:33-‭35
    Daniel‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬-‭28
    Rev. 12:11
    Ps. 115:4-8

Beautiful & Necessary

Heather and Jamie beautifully unpack scripture in humble vulnerability. They are brilliant minded women who have spent years in the secret place and cultivating their own faith and understanding in order to model and share with others through their respective ministries. That they have come together to share what they’ve learned and come to understand is a gift to all who take time to listen.

The Podcast That We Needed!!

Growing up as a woman and a Christian it was always hard to see myself in text because majority of the time it’s centered around men leaders in the Bible. Heather and Jamie do a great job and not only highlighting women in the Bible but they also empower women to be who they are and that God created us just as we are. ❤️

Heresy abounds

I have listened to multiple of these episodes, some multiple times. Each one contains repeated attempts to reconstruct the God of the Bible into something the hosts find more in line with their thinking. They create a god of their own design instead of following the God of the scriptures. They even say this in the first episode when they describe God as a mash up of what they read in the Bible AND their lived experiences. Stay away from this toxic, heretical teaching.
